Superman? Super hungry? Super fat? How disappointed the new Green Lantern must be…..

This brings to mind a short essay by Larry Niven, “Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex.” He speculates how the Kryptonian race could be continued with only Superman and Supergirl still existing.
    .
In his passion, Superman would obliterate any human woman; and even were a way found to fertilize successfully, the baby in normal fetal movement might cause problems in the womb. Reproducing with Supergirl would be wrong, because she is Superman’s cousin (in most states).
    .
Niven suggests that the embryo be implanted somehow within Superman himself and brought to term that way. A pregnant Superman flying over Metropolis? No doubt he would be super-hungry, devouring whole truckloads of pickles and ice cream!

Superman has absolute muscle control otherwise he would break anything jut by touching it. The baby would probably have no superpowers until it is exposed to sunlight.

How the Superman mythos has changed over the years! As a kid I took the stories very seriously. I pasted a picture of him on our car’s window and pretended he was following us.
    .
The solar elements were added in recent years, long, LONG after I stopped reading the comics. Superman’s powers in relation to the sun was revealed first to me when, on a whim, I read THE DEATH AND LIFE OF SUPERMAN. Also revealed was his means of propulsion. What a mishmash of super-heroes and comic lore that book was.
    .
You want to know something? — don’t tell anyone, now — I still dream about flying like Superman.

The comic and your comments raise a question in my mind. . .
    Would Superman get stretch marks?

Yes, not exactly a brilliant idea.

Considering there are no more Kryptonians it would be okay, if Kara agreed, to use her for reproductive purposes.

Superman’s powers were always dependent on the sun. That’s why he was vulnerable to the rays of a red sun. They just didn’t explain it until later.

I’m operating on old and incomplete information, apparently. In my youth, the Kryptonians had normal, human-like powers under the rays of their native red sun. Under a yellow sun is when one of them would gain super powers. Even animals! I never thought why that was.
    .
Everybody knows these are just fictional constructs, and yet… Funny how we take them so seriously and discuss (even argue) what is correct.
    .
The illustrators and strip writers must have had a blast constructing those comics.
