   Only the political/lobby wing which unfortunately, has taken over the NRA and overshadowed the many good things it has done since its inception.
   The problem is that no politician has the balls to stand up to their bullying. Congress is scared to death of the Koch Brothers and that dweeb Grover Norquist, so don’t expect any bucking up to the gun lobby.

   I have Federal permits both to carry and to sell firearms, as well as state permits to carry concealed weapons.
   Guess what ?
   I am a huge proponent of stricter gun laws and more stringent regulations regarding the purchase of firearms, thorough background checks, a waiting period of at least fourteen days, and closing the loopholes on swap meets, gun shows etc.
   I also believe that every purchaser of a firearm should have proper, supervised training and certification prior to purchase.
   These are not in the least unreasonable nor draconian regulations. While it might not stop some deranged person like the kid in Conn., it does provide a modicum of tempering.
   Also, if the media stopped giving these wack-jobs their brief moment in the national spotlight, it would go a long way to diminish these attention seekers,

    Thank God!
    A degree of sanity regarding weapons.
    I get sick of the ‘guns don’t kill people, people kill people ’ brigade who can’t seem to understand that guns enable people to kill people more efficiently and quickly and from a safer (for the killer) distance than other weapons.
    We will always have unstable people in our society, and we will always have villains. What we don’t need are more effective means for these to murder.

    And I totally agree about the spotlight stuff – they want that media attention – don’t give it to them.
    (And don’t interview 6 year olds about their reactions to the shooting, either – totally inappropriate. We don’t have to wring every ounce of pathos out of a situation like this, it’s terrible enough to start with.
    (BTW – personally I think that only soldiers and farmers and members of armed response units need guns. I can sees the point of sportsmen enjoying shooting – it should be at targets only and weapons kept at the gun club in locked cabinets. I know people won’t agree with me. I can live with that.)

    You made two very important points. A person has to prove he knows how to operate a motor vehicle before they can get a license, but this is not the case with a firearm. Ridiculous. And we have to stop all the media attention these perpetrators get. Most of these losers are trying to make a name for themselves. We should forget them, and remember only the victims. For example: No one except a die-hard John Lennon fan should know the name ‘Mark David Chapman’. And I hesitate to mention it even in this context.
