We’ll have to see if the color version confirms that it’s a polar bear. In any case, it appears to eat pollers (i.e. it’s a pollivore).

Love the glasses and clip board laying on the floe. Anyone know how many claws are on a polar bear’s foot?

Anyone standing near a creature having paws(with claws) large enough to completely COVER a 12" dinner plate when NOT stretched out and making possible rude comments DESERVES to be dinner.

If a polar bear eats a pollster, does he need to pay a poll tax?

For what it’s worth, in the Tampa Bay Times today, the bear and icebergs are white, sky and sea are differing shades of blue, pollster was pink, his suit brown, clipboard is a lighter brown. So, yep, that’s a polar bear. (Actually icebergs have a lot of blue in them – at least the ones I saw in person did.) Bears have five claws on each foot. Look up bear claws on Google images. Most of the pictures show four claws, but some show all five. Bear claw pastries are made with four slashes in the dough, so they have five “claws,” too. End of lesson.

This venue is a lot safer than blogging on other social networks, especially for the younger crowd. For that fact alone, these strips are worth their weight in gold. One of the kids I baby-sit (9 year old), used Xgen Studios for gaming, stick figures fighting each other on the internet. Looked over his shoulder one day to see that the language used to talk to each other during the fighting would make a drunken sailor blush. Had to lock out the site. Keep up the quality work.

Ooooh, maybe it wasn’t a pollster, maybe it was a lawyer!

Now that’s a good use for polar bears.

Smart of the bear to remove the glasses; that could cause a nasty surprise to his digestive tract. The zippers and buttons I presume will be treated like bones, though, and pass safely through.

Why have scientists started using lawyers instead of lab rats?

    A) There are some things even a rat won’t do.B) The scientists were getting fond of the rats…

Polar bears are quite able to get hold of penguins. There are a lot of frozen ready meal outlets at the N. Pole.

There is a theory that when it gets to warm for polar bears, they vanish into the closely related (close enough that they can produce fertile crossbreeds in the wild) grizzly/brown bear population, and re-emerge when the climate will once again create a suitable ecological niche.

“but globally the Medieval Warm Period was cooler than recent global temperatures” Granted, wikipedia is not an unflawed source, but it does give some good info. (Also, Greenland was named by exiled vikings in hopes of attracting more settlers) Historic weather data seems to be hotly debated as to what really happened – I wouldn’t necessarily ignore all the evidence of global warming because of it. At any rate, the world cannot continue at it’s present rate of consumption and expect that there will be enough resources to go around. It’s time to become more savvy and responsible. Or learn to like the taste of pollsters.
