there is no “standard” dress or shoe size, never was. it varies according to the manufacturer, and sometimes within the manufacturer according to a particular line. you always have to try it on for fitting.

Wait until you run into “executive fit”. Now that’s vanity sizing. (It also has, alas, a certain practicality in our Zorgon-influenced world.)

Petite doesn’t refer to width but to height. You can have a “petite large” if you are overweight and short.
