C’mon- how would hiring Ox be any kind of substitute for TJ? She can’t fire TJ because his upselling is keeping her quotas up at corporate, and now that $148 daily bump that she was counting in has just left the building. .The best laid plans of mice and men….In fact, Ann hasn’t been able to fire someone since Brad. The next person on her crew that drops a mop will probably be toast.

That, ladies and gentlemen, should be a wrap. Get your popcorn and let’s go to the movies with Tiffany & Crystal. Unless, of course, we can hit the adventure trail with Luann (remember her?) and her faithful companion, Bernice as they apply for model jobs with Victoria’s Secret.

Nah, Crystal has nothing in common with Luann – she barely has anything in common with Tiffany. Besides, why would you want to see her taking Bernice’s place? We see little enough of her as it is. .In addition, I’m not sure Bern is over Crystal trying to move in on Zane, so she’d probably make Luann to choose between them.

If Ann is trying to replace TJ, she would have to replace him with someone who is clever and a great salesman, the only difference being that he/she follows Ann’s orders. Ox, even if he agreed to work there, would not fit the bill.

Otherwise, Corporate would notice the numbers. Maybe Ann still has her heart set on getting rich from suing Toni so she doesn’t think she’ll need to rely on TJ in order to get any big bonus from Corporate or whatever.

Bern needs a sharp and acerbic tongue to pop Luann’s ego balloon when it gets too big, but I agree, she is kind. When Luann is totally crushed over something, she is</I. there to support her with a shoulder to cry on, and no snide remarks. .Their relationship is one of the best true-to-life ones in the strip – you can tell they’ve been besties since kindergarden.

I wish it would be the story, but aside from the fact that the arc is so long in the past, I can’t conceive of a situation where Crystal would ever want, far less need, to hang out with Luann.

.The Zane/Bern arc is probably my favorite – it was nice to see bookish Bern fall head over heels.

LOL! I don’t think WeenieWorld’s a legitimate university. Probably a trade school. I’m glad Ann got to put her diploma to good use after working since 2002 and studying abroad in Tokyo in order to make her dream come true.

BTW, I know Ann wasn’t studying abroad in Japan. Nobody correct me. I was kidding.

I know perfectly well that Ann was spending her time in Japan discovering her roots as the daughter of the long-lost Argentinian mafioso Don Pablo, and more importantly, the existence of another heir: a young man with a seemingly permanent grin and no idea of his true connections, but nevertheless must be eliminated. Unlike Ann’s suit against Toni, THIS isn’t personal. It’s business.

Pity, Ann has so much room for growth, but it looks like even when a golden opportunity like her actually being impressed by Ox’s ethics comes along, it’s just a set up for a one liner. This character will go the way of Frank Burns in MASH. Hot Lips grew. Klinger grew. But Frank Burns remained 2 dimensional and eventually got dropped. On the other hand, Frank never looked so good….

Also ot being not to nice isnt too pretty either. Years ago I heard a skit of Blii Cosby and he was talking about going to a High School dance (not the prom). He was saying that the guys were all after the pretty girls and not paying attention to this plian looking one. It was some time before he could talk to the pretty girl but found out she was not very nice at all. At the end of the routine he was asking around “Where is the plain girl?” The last line of that story was The pretty ones arent always the nice ones. He wound up being with the plain girl because she was the nicest one. All in all he said “The nicest ones aren’t all the best looking ones.”

Also, Ox was just threatening and playing keep-away with someone half his size while TJ sat there and laughed; think real hard about who is really being “mean” here.

I guess Toni is going to get away scott-free for dragging Shannon into the restaurant Toni had been banned from, and then laughing after Shannon bit the woman who helped keep Brad employed after he was laid off work despite him being incredibly flaky. I wonder who Toni’ll manipulate Shannon into assaulting next. Toni’s one of the designated “good guys,” so she can pretty much get away with whatever she wants, I guess.

The idea that Ox is somehow a bully for not giving the paper back to Ann is complete BS. Ann handed him a legal document, an affidavit, and asked for his signature. It is not a lawn mower. It is a legal document and it belongs to Oxford. PERIOD.

No matter who typed or prepared the affidavit, it is Ox’s affidavit if it purports to be his statement of the facts, and he is entitled to retain it or share it with counsel and under no circumstances is Ann entitled to demand it back.

Interesting discussion about the prevalence of certain characters in the strip. It’s almost like Luann is treating the title character like “Superman” and “Action Comics” did before the DCnU. I.E. the title character was rarely seen, if ever, and even then, it wasn’t like said title character really mattered all that much.

Luann at least makes appearances in the Sunday strips, though, so you’ve got that.

“No matter how “EVIL” Ann is supposed to be, I am going to sympathize with a tiny woman being pushed around by a huge guy.”.Further proof that we see what we want to see. At no point was he pushing her around even though she grabbed his clothes and was yelling orders at him. He seemed to be holding her injured hand but that was only to look at the gruesome damage done by the small monster earlier, but it was to study the injury and not to harm or control.. “If anything, I would give kudos to Ann for having the moxie to stand up to Ox. She didn’t run off and turn tail like Leslie did. Instead she stood her ground and persisted. To my mind, that’s bravery. “.She stood up to him even when he refused to sign a false statement to hurt other people and you call that bravery? WHAT A WOMAN!!.It IS possible for small people to bully bigger people by playing on their fears — including the fear of being thought a bully. One good way to spot such people is that they are the ones giving orders to people over whom they have no authority or abusing the authority they DO have. Oh, if only we could think of an example..(By the way, this forces me to admit TJ comes awfully close to bullying in his rudeness to the lovely Ann due to her fear of firing him as he improves her image before corporate. On the other hand, much of the rudeness is of the form of ignoring arbitrary and harmful orders which corporate would likely not favor either. Still, it‘s close.)

May I offer this observation to a delusional subset of participants here?

Shannon – a carnivore, likes human flesh: she doesn’t go with the flow

TJ – a manipulative dreamer, likes to plan vigilante schemes for others to play out: he doesn’t go with the flow

Toni – a lousy duck-lipped aunt and uncaring human being who starts trouble and then sits back to watch the city burn: she doesn’t go with the flow

Brad – A dorky insecure slob who is forever going to be beauty’s beast. Does not accept his station as a second rate human being: he does not go with the flow.

So why on earth would you have a problem with these characters? They dance to their own beat and are not afraid to add psycho-diversity to the comic strip. Do they not offer a contrasting set of values to the otherwise vanilla landscape?

They do not go with the flow. Isn’t that your mantra? Eh?

ann pretty much orchestrated her own downfall. yeah, tj went there to sabotage her but once he’d increased her sales she simply could have let that be and reap the benefits from the guys at corporate. instead she let her own petty needs interfere and here we are. none of this was forced on ann, the path was laid before her and she ran up it unable to subvert her ego.

Oh, bullshit. clydefrog was wrapping himself in not “going with the flow” long before I started reading this strip. There are some people who will say “black” when it’s white just to be difficult – if you saw yourself in that, that’s your problem. , Secondly, when have I ever told anyone to get off the site or stop posting? If you find me authoritative, tough. If you don’t like the fact that I love language and use it, double tough. I have a strong voice, if you don’t what I say, give me an argument. I love a good debate. If you can’t, life is a challenge – get better at expressing yourself and make me eat my argument. .And lastly, if my posting my opinion automatically makes you post the opposite – congratulations on being a weak knee-jerk puppet who takes no responsibility for his actions. You might want to consider a name change, because you DO realize you just told me that I have the power to determine what you post – that it doesn’t come from you actually using your brain. . Every abuser always claims his victim “made” him lose control, too.Not too many people are proud of not being able to control themselves or think for themselves – way to go.

I suggest you contact the Paymaster and chief Cashier: Mojitobaby. Tell her I sent you and recommend a 20% raise. Just how much is 20% of your current salary? OK double it.

When I was working security in a mall, Victoria’s Secret moved in. Fifty…I applied. Target rich environment. They were amused but terrified…I guess that was it. Would have been fun…it’s unfortunate, but they didn’t hire me.

I dunno – I think you’re technically an amateur because you’re doing it out of love, but how about a color sample of Ann’s tongue? .Otherwise, Greg just draws you a picture of a check – he sorta gets confused between the Luanniverse and the real world. Those suckers are impossible to cash, but we humor him and tell him we paid the mortgage or took a cruise or some damn thing. Then the little *)&^% draws us a bonus check. I swear, sometimes I think he’s pwnng us

@Mojitobaby:No wonder I was (and still) lousy at Social Studies and History. The Sanford and Son scripts are in my memory.

Smarter than Brad.(I’m sure somebody else must have already said it, but I’m not wading thru 200+ comments to find out).

She didn’t say that Ox would be taking T.J.‘s place. She can’t afford to fire him either .. but, as the lesson goes, ’ugly’s to the bone’.

howtheduck said, about 23 hours ago@DavidHuieGreen “When I look at Oxford with his hand around Ann’s wrist, I do not see Ann willingly letting him examine her finger. It looks to me like Oxford has grabbed Ann’s hand and is forcing it to a position where he can see it against her will. That seems like “control” to me.”.Exactly. The frame never changes so it looks like he continues to hold her hand as long as we look at it. It’s a limitation of the medium. It could have been a moment or it could have been an hour. The moment is too short to properly study the gruesome scarring, the hour is too long for Ann to not be upset immediately afterward..“I think you have missed the point of TJ working for Ann. He has pretty much said right out he is there for no other reason than to exact revenge on Ann because of the way she treated Brad. It’s been awhile, but it is all there”.Nope, didn’t miss that as the stated purpose. Just don’t know if that revenge is satisfied or if it is ongoing. It’s definitely NOT the type where you get your target off to a secluded place and off her. Therefore, knowing what would satisfy his sense of justice is uncertain. The only proper response would be to convince her to stop being a bully. If we knew how to do that, we would be even richer than we already are..It is also why I mention how close he comes to being the bully she is. She bullies because she can and because it makes her feel good. She can not bully TJ because she has no power over him and has become dependent on him..That gives HIM power over HER and brings up the question of what happens when a bully is powerless. At what point does retribution become bullying in kind? So far he’s pretty much limited himself to unkind comments about her lack of business sense, tightness driving customers away, overwhelming desire to squash any who defy her, attempts to commit illegal acts such as fraud. If he were her best friend, he should also point out these flaws to her..Of course, it’s possible I’m reading too much into the comic strip, but how we respond to any input defines how we view the world, as previously stated.

Ann has to not only be mean but also insane to even try to attempt this little fiasco.
