Why are they there if they didn’t “vote” on the trip anyway?

Our family always decided TOGETHER on where we went for vactions!!!!

Poor dad! Camping is supposed to be fun and relaxing, using nature to entertain you and not TV and video games.

Camping = cooking and washing dishes outdoors in the dirt with no hot water; hiking all afternoon keeping track of the kids while Dad goes fishing; being out in the woods for a week to ten days with no way to get clean but jumping in a icy stream or lake. Ahh, the great outdoors!

Dad needs to understand that family is always together anyway. This is a time when he should enjoy what he likes rather than expect the other way around. I would rather enjoy this with some of my friends and have a great time indulging in pristine nature!!

Our lakes are deep, spring feed, with an iceberg sitting the middle. Good way to freeze your b…s off.

Yesterday was the funeral of one of our Green Mountain Boys killed in Afghanistan.

The news said that one of his philosophies was “Life should have a little Calvin and Hobbes in it.”

    I feel it here.

    Peace and Long Life \\//_

They were just discussing that on the radio and there are some camping grounds that have showers and the like right there, so I think it’s gotten much better for those of you that like the outdoors, but like the convenience of being able to get clean too! :)

To all those who thought that Camping was forcing Calvin to do reading that he wouldn’t have if he were home…

It’s most likely a comic book.

And, knowing how much cats love water (NOT!), I don’t think you could bribe Hobbes enough to get in the frigid water to play shark just for a trick on dad.

When I had to take some days off not knowing how many at the time didn’t take near enough off though had to because had to keep hours short, we didn’t go camping far from that. Hubby and I went to MO for fun and walked the strip seen a lot of shows had fun. Then died that night from exhaustion. Best time we had and I want to do it again if I can ever get a full time job. I might have to wait unless I have to have work done on my tail bone for a pinch nerve, could use that but sad part where I like to go won’t be open for business.:( Nice to see Calvin read. Dad is trying to get them involved if only he would listen then he could be miserable and mom and son happy.

I’d be in there with dad. Since I live on a lake I use every opportunity to be in it, especially after mowing the lawn or pulling weeds. It takes a lot to make water to cold for me to at least get in for a few minutes. My wife used to be a competitive swimmer so she is in the lake more often than I, but unlike me she is a bit more adverse to joining me when the water temp drops.

You can tell this is an old strip - nowadays any kid swimming in a lake would have a wetsuit.

Some of the lakes are warm on the top 2 ft, ice some where down there. I made sure to make a wide circle so as not swim in mixed water I think you do not have that problem in warmer climates?

    Now, that’s cold!

We didn’t do much actual camping–too many kids. We either visited relatives (usually Grandparents) or rented a cabin.

And, see? Our characters never got build up properly.

Hypothermia - that is a big word for the average grade school kid, much less to actually know what it means and what can cause it to happen.

I don’t even think it’s dripping sarcasm, margueritem … even though Dad can sometimes be a drip. I think he’s just being wistful, or hopeful, or dreaming on in some such way. (I’m a dad who’s been there and done that, though perhaps not in such icy circumstances …)

I believe the last time I saw Calvin reading without being forced was just recently when his mother insisted he stop what he was doing and take out the trash. As usual, he had a snarky comment about that too!
