Reminds me of when I was young and I would get in trouble for something. My dad would sit me down and invariably would say “Didn’t you stop to think that perhaps doing such and such would get you into trouble?’” I would look at him and say “yes.” But that didn’t stop me from doing it anyway.

Maybe Susie might consider that Calvin is her punishment for being a bad little girl. Or if you’re the Karmic persuasion (sp) that she is being otherwise tested.

LOL—this one reminds me of another Calvin snowball classic….

First panel shows a fiendishly grinning Calvin fondling a big snowball as some unsuspecting victim approaches. He asks himself, “Should I, or shouldn’t I?”

Next panel shows him giving the snowball a mighty hurl while gleefully proclaiming, “Too late—I DID!!”

“Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned,” or a spirited girl hit in the head by a slushball. Go get ‘em girl!!

To paraphrase W.S. Gilbert’s line in “The Mikado,” “Her object all sublime, she did achieve this time, to make the punishment fit the crime, the punishment fit the crime.”

Yes I forgot to mention yesterday that I’m in upstate NY. This is our second bad cold snap of below zero temperatures lasting a week or more with 50 mph winds in many years. We had the last subzero 2 weeks during Christmas and through New Year’s Day this year. Compared to yesterday it’s alot warmer because it’s 11:00 AM and it’s 7 degrees above zero. I’m definitely praying for spring! When I was a little one of my guy friends (I was the only girl in the neighborhood) hit me in the face with a slushball. He thought it was a riot until I got him back with one right in the ear. I felt victorious until he ran home crying. He was so upset that his Mom said he didn’t want me to come in. I told Mom the whole story and we made him a plate of brownies for me to bring over as an apology. He wasn’t as mad as he was embarrassed that I made him cry in front of the other guys. Growing up I always wished I was a guy to fit in better but I learned on that day and others, that it was good to be a girl because nobody laughs when you cry!

This is a good strip this Sunday. As far as the weather around here, we are still slightly warmer than average for the whole heating season (WB/Scranton PA) as of today. The January thaw lasted over 10 days here. We are also just missing the storms that are pounding Delaware and Maryland.

Considering that Susie always gets her shots at Calvin in quite well, and mostly before he even deserves them, I’m glad Calvin got a free one right on her head. She deserves it for always being a such a little snoot.

I remember this one from its original run. Sunday Calvins were the best of all the Sunday strips.

Look at the way his pupils popped out! LOLOLOLOLOLOL!

    Dino-1: Loved your story!

It never ceases to amaze me how some people can’t take it anywhere near as well as they can give it! He started it, you finished it … and then YOU were the one that had to apologize to HIM (and with a plate of brownies no less!!!) all because he went crying to his mommy and you didn’t!

Dino- I watch GMA since I only work pt afternoon in an office setting. And they show the weather a lot. For NYE I felt sorry for the all the crowd welcoming the new year for they looked very cold. I also enjoy your stoies you put humor in them. Hear in KS especially middle SC we had snow that came in Thurs night to almost all of Friday and where I traveled to work the depth of snow was different in some areas where further north they received more. Where my mom lives she is 10min by hwy and got more then what we did. Still very cold.

What we have here is a failure to communicate…., he picks on her, she beats him up and he continues to bother her. I guess this is what Calvin likes until some changes are made.

Are there any official GROSS membership clubs around?

This has been my pup’s first experience with snow. I was throwing snowballs for her to catch. Loved watching her expression as she couldn’t find them once they hit the ground, or broke apart when she did manage to catch them.

I love that, even when he hits, he loses.

Reminds me of the time he got Susie good, and she covered her eyes, and said, “Oh no! If you find my eye, they might be able to put it back in!”

“Did you really lose an eye? Can I see? Where is it?”

(as she hits him a good one, and he lands in the snowbank), “Right there, you turd!”

Now Calvin is due the same same nickname my father had: “lefty”. My dad was a good enough pitcher to have the Yankees interested in him…way back in the late 1940’s or so ( not sure of the date, actually). I couldn’t play catch with him when I was a kid - even an easy throw from him was more than I could handle - made my glove hand feel like I had broken it…a source of everlasting regret for both of us…

You go girl!! I don’t remember Susie ever throwing an unprovoked snowball at Calvin and she did give him a warning that it wasn’t going to be pleasant if he whammed her. Wish I’d had the guts to fix some of those boys who whapped me with snowballs when I was a kid. Yay Susie!!

Hey, khpage - I thought I was the only one who noticed Calvin’s a lefty! Funny how the most maverick, confident, bold types tend to be lefties … including three out of our last four presidents, I believe, and an awful lot of pioneering artists and thinkers.

If you asked a bunch of people at random to guess which “handedness” Calvin would have, I’ll bet a majority would guess Leftie - although possibly very few of them would have any clear idea why.
