There was only one hobbit, the others were dwarves. And the term hobbit is still trademarked, I’m surprised they used it.

Early in my USAF career, a fellow airman told me that every time characters stopped and smoked, he lit and smoked a joint. He claimed that it made the books more enjoyable. He didn’t last too long in the service.

I think that question is pretty rhetorical.

I will admit I’m not an English grammar expert. It seems to me that the position of the comma in the Gandolf’s sentence would suggest that Gandolf summoned the Eagles and 13 Hobbits, but only Gandolf flew away.

Since it was 13 dwarves, and one hobbit, I want to know what Parker and Hart were smoking? ;) :P Unless, of course, the faux pa was to avoid copyright/trademark infringement, then, yeah, I get it.

After I saw the eagles rescue Frodo & Sam, I wondered why Gandalf didn’t just have them fly Frodo there in the first place.

I thought it was 12 dwarfs and a hobbit.
