To understand the Qonservative RepubliQan mentality in their complete disregard for FACTS and EVIDENCE is the same mentality as their ideological ancestors: the white supremacists of the 1940’s and 1950’s. They would commit lynchings and other extremely brutal murders with impunity, because they knew they would go to court, and no matter how much FACTS and EVIDENCE were presented — wink, wink — it would all be ignored and the all-white juries would declare them NOT GUILTY. And they would be set free to ride off on their next Q Qlux Qlan night-ride of terrorism.
While they have changed parties (the Q Qlux Qlan was founded by Democrats who later became Republicans when the Democratic Party matured and repudiated them — the Democrats’ ugly racist past tense is the Republicans’ ugly racist present tense), it is the same disregard of FACTS and EVIDENCE — wink, wink — when they vote to acquit a person who was as much a traitor as the Qonfederates whose flag they all revere.
Lindsey Graham, who was one of the House Impeachment Managers in 1998 against Bill Clinton, at which time he believed that fibbing about oral sex with a consenting adult (which did not qualify as perjury since the question about consensual sex was not relevant to a case about non-consensual harassment) was grounds for impeachment, said that showing the video evidence was “offensive.” Well, duh. Of course it was offensive. What Trump did was offensive. And of course, FACTS and EVIDENCE are always OFFENSIVE to those who are GUILTY.
The Newt told the Ingraham that it was all Pelosi’s and Schumer’s fault that there was a lack of security. He still hasn’t a clue about how things work.
With apologies to ‘Animal House’, the argument from Trump’s attornies yesterday: “Ladies and gentlemen of the Senate, I’ll be brief. The issue here is not whether former president Trump broke a few rules, took a few liberties with the U.S. Constitution, or endangered the safety of the U.S. Congress and Vice President – he did. But you can’t hold him responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals who were incited into this behavior by him. For if you do, then shouldn’t we blame the whole political system? And if the whole political system is guilty, then isn’t this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but I for one am not going to stand here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America.”
I’m pissed by many things, but none more so than seeing Democratic lawyers make smart, sound, passionate arguments and then seeing repug lawyers effectively fart in a bag and leave the room while repug lawmakers say, “Well, that’s good enough for me. The Democrats have no case.”
It is not only their hearing that the Republican senators at the impeachment trial have blocked. Metaphorically, they have allowed a parasitic worm to obscure their vision of the evidence against Trump. They have long nurtured it in the collective eye of the nation. It must be carefully and completely removed to avoid further infection and for true healing to take place. The linked video may be instructive (not for the squeamish):
At least 15 senators have been absent during part of the senate trial. One of the senate members (ideally, it would be McConnell) should move that those absentee members be disqualified from voting on the verdict because they have failed to listen to the evidence, hence they cannot be impartial jurors. And if that action should pass, the number of the 2/3 majority to convict would become much closer to striking range.
I believed that the republican party had some merit, but the past four years has destroyed that trust, pay attention democrats and don’t go the same route!
As was shown during the entirety of the Trump administration, facts don’t matter, truth doesn’t matter, science doesn’t matter, the rule of law doesn’t matter. BUT, appealing to the worst elements of a rabid base, that matters.
One hopes the voters will remember which senators took their oath to trump more important than the one to the constitution. I doubt they will.. but still “hope springs eternal”
Republicans cannot vote to convict. Doing so would force them to admit to their own complicity and involvement in perpetuating the rigged election lie.

Extra, extra, read all about it. Republican Senators Acquit Trump, Condemn Themselves.
No news there: Trump skates free and his followers pay the price.
