When Fox “news” was first formed, it was legally classified as an “entertainment” channel and a media arm of one political party (Republican). They know they are not news, their lawyers fight that in courts to this very day:

So, how do you make an entertainment channel with a “brand name” of News in their name seem legitimate in the eyes of their viewers? Well, they could actually report, y’know, news, but that takes integrity and responsibility. The other thing you do is muddy the waters by saying all the other (actual) news agencies are just “mainstream media” and report/lie/exaggerate news much like you do, but you are the underdog and all they do is “we report, you decide” or “fair and balanced” or some other nonsensical slogan that brings their dupes along with them.
They’ve been doing this propaganda since the 1990’s, when they first came onto the basic cable channels. And they have people who believe that after awhile.
Actual news reporting outfits and channels with journalists and reporters assigned worldwide are being discounted by a group of people who rarely leave their studios (or are staying home during this pandemic) and spout junk on the on the level of the National Enquirer or Midnight Star or some other tabloid you find at a 7-11 checkout stand on a basic TV channel, and if you try to take them to task, they say “Oh, we’re not news. Only idiots would think we are.”
They not only insult actual news sources, but insult their viewers at the same time.
