Staying home could save lives… since you can’t know who you’ll be travelling with, much less whether they’re carrying the virus.
Even if you catch it and are healthy enough to survive (or even avoid symptoms), you could unknowingly pass it onward to someone else (or a chain of someones else), resulting in subsequent death.
And from a more “selfish” point of view: Are you willing to be held in quarantine for two weeks (or more; there are cases which suggest that that may not always be enough) If someone you have travelled with tests positive for the virus?
They could be doing that on one of the cruise ships now haunting the US coasts. Gotta feel sorry for those folks. The anxiety level must be really high, which doesn’t help the situation for either passengers or crew.
My company is not “patriotic” (in the Republican Gang interpretation). We are ignoring Trump’s advice. We are telling our employees that if they feel sick, stay at home. They have even waived the need for a doctor’s note for extended absences.
We even set up special handling for parts we import from countries with high rates of infection.
On a somewhat related idea, I’ve often wanted to travel but now find that my smartphone gives me so many other choices. I use a recumbent bike for exercise and like to use the smartphone and my Mogo headset to view bike tours of places far away. I’ve toured New York’s Central Park, downtown Cairo and London. I wonder if there’s a bike tour of Petra in Jordan.

TV is safer but not particularly satisfying. Which is true of travel at any time, in any direction, for any reason.

Don’t leave the country. Trump might not let you back in if it makes HIS numbers look bad. You can be held hostage on a cruise ship.
When it comes to the corona virus, take Trump’s advice, go to work even if you are sick and “Don’t worry, be happy.”
