“Nevertheless, she persisted.” A reference to ELIZABETH WARREN. When she tried to read into the record a 30-year-old letter from CORETTA SCOTT KING, Senate Majority Leader Mitch “Turtle” McConnell objected. Warren persisted. Turtle said, “She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.” And then he ordered Warren to be removed from the chamber.
Far and away my first choice for 2020 will be Elizabeth Warren. I had hoped she would run for 2016 and was so disappointed that she didn’t. As an actual Democrat, I believe she would have won the primary and the general if she had.
I have (and have actually read) both of her last two books. She is enormously intelligent, more than all others put together, is fiercely loyal to working people, cannot be bought by corporate money, has stood up to the banks and Wall $treet elitists more aggressively than anyone else ever has (calling for prison sentences for those who profited by collapsing the markets in 2008 and specifically the top officers at Wells Fargo) and knows the minutiae and most arcane technical details of the financial sector better than anyone (taught financial law at Harvard). She has the most specific policy proposals (2% wealth tax, universal childcare and supports AOC’s return to the 70% top marginal rate and Green New Deal).
Warren can articulate a message and stick with it. In my 48 years as a registered voter (never failing to vote), I have never been more energized by a candidate (or potential candidate).
One of the most important things, to me, is that she is admired by both Bernie and Hillary wings of the party and is the one person that could unify the current rift in the Democratic Party.
And who is Trump most threatened by? Have you ever seen Trump tweet an attack against Joe Biden? Kamala Harris? Bernie Sanders (who I supported in the 2016 primary)? No! He feels most threatened by Elizabeth Warren.
Hillary Clinton accurately described a portion of Trumps’ most vile supporters like David Duke, Steve Bannon and others from the alt right and their supporters as “A basket of deplorables.” Now many others have proudly taken up the term. Rosie has a much more positive message on her lips.
Cute. This strip reflects the political era we live in and how it creeps in our everyday conversations whether we like it or not. Politics is everyone’s business.
There was once a kid who seemed perfectly normal in every respect except he never spoke a word. One morning when he was 7 and sitting at the breakfast table he said “Oatmeal’s cold.” His mom, astonished, looked at him and exclaimed “You can talk! Why haven’t you said anything before now?” Kid shrugged and replied “Up till now, everything’s been OK.”
Moral of the story: Some people just live to complain.
Trump fears Warren primarily because she can go toe to toe with him on financial matters, and, I’d wager, steamroll him. After all, that’s what politics is about these days.
My uncle, who was born in 1912, worried his parents because he wouldn’t talk. he was tested and found not to be deaf. One Sunday, when the family were out for a walk, he pointed up to the sky from his pram and said “aeroplane!” Just wasn’t bothering to speak until he had something important to say.
A few days ago, I read of a similar case where a girl was slow beginning to talk. Then, one day at tea, she turned to a guest and said, “would you like some more cake?”

I’m old enough to remember when somebody’s kid in this strip’s first words were ‘Big Mac’; does anyone else recall that?

Read a story once about a child who was late to talk, stressing her parents. Her first words were “Please don’t fight”. This is better.

Well, I suppose it is not so much about learning to talk sometimes, but more like learning when to talk and to whom.

Better than I did. I repeated something my grandmother often said, “Uoooh, you bad girl”.
