Let’s face it, the so called evangelicals are Christian in name only. They cherry pick the passages of their holy book to lord over everyone else while claiming all the passages they themselves violate no longer apply. How anyone can call themselves a Christian while utterly ignoring the teachings of Christ is beyond me.

For at least the past two generations, Republicans have depended on the Religious Right types to support them, and they have been very dependable, despite the fact that very few of them have enough money that they were not working against their own best interests. The Republicans have convinced them that they believed in a Family Values agenda- anti-gay, anti-abortion, etc. Somehow they managed not to notice that once Republicans were elected, they completely ignored that agenda, or made it a trade-off for securing the goals of the 1%ers who were controlling the Republican party. In fact, they rarely mentioned those issues unless they were using them as a bargaining chip—- until the next time they needed volunteers to work for their candidates, when it again became their mantra. After all these years, the Religious Right seems to have finally figured out that the Establishment Republicans are playing them for fools, so they are continuing to prove they are fools by voting for anyone who isn’t an Establishment Republican, but still is a Republican. The fact that they elected Donald Trump, who has the Family Values credentials of an extremely active tomcat, is an indication of just how totally they have been taken in by the GOP.

Poor “jlocke” can’t catch a break. Everyone piles on because they don’t understand human nature and god’s grace. Everyone except “jlocke” who sees trump for who he is—just like you and me.

We are all sinful. Oh woe is me! We must put up with the racists. We are all sinful. We must put up with the lying. Oh what sinners we are! We must all put up with the bullying. Hey, if you don’t like it, tough. We are all bad people, just like trump. Never mind the malignant narcissism, we are all flawed. Hey, treason’s not so bad. Aren’t we all fallen? Oh, and the misogyny, well, we are flawed people, even women.

Not perfect, just forgiven, right? The holy ends justify the profane means, right “jlocke?” My oh my, once again defending the indefensible.

I think I may need some of Jesus’ blood and body to cleanse me from my sin. Or maybe just declare my faith and be forgiven. It’s not like behavior matters, right? Thoughts and prayers are how we should react to gun violence—and we can all see the efficacy of prayer.

Poor misunderstood donny trump. He’s flawed just like you and me—except he’s mentally ill, deeply ignorant, overtly racist, authoritarian, anti democratic, treasonous, and, yes, flawed.

    @JLOKE

    Trump is NOT imperfect.

Trump is a traitor. (among his other qualities, like robbing people of their life savings)

    .

Your giving him a pass on the grounds of being imperfect is disgusting.

    .

Yeah, I know. But Hillary. And Obama death panels.

The really creepy thing is that evil Trump is going up in the polls.

A certain segment of voters see the destruction of America as a good thing.

What is unfortunate is that a lot of good Evangelicals are being tarred by those who have joined up with Trump. Jim Wallis, the founder of Sojourners magazine, is an evangelical pastor and a tireless advocate for the undocumented and for LGBTQ rights. And he is not alone. But their voices are lost among the noise of those power-hungry pastors clinging to Trump for their own ends.

Evangelicals do not need to confess. They just claim to be reborn which cleans their slate. In this they differ from a Hindu who accepts multiple rebirths to achieve spiritual cleansing . In the way of self delusion and dickishness, evangelicals are efficient.

@JLocke – would you say the same thing about Clinton?

Note that these are the same evangelicals who not only went after Bill Clinton, but went after his WIFE because…why? Because she was faithful?

Let’s have some consistency here. If you’re going to try and impeach Bill Clinton for the absurd reason that he slept around, then you HAVE to try and impeach Trump for the same reason. Otherwise, you need to quit kvetching about “character is important.” Because in Trump’s case, it clearly isn’t.

And let’s be clear: In Trump’s case this is not just fooling around: this is repeated and systematic betrayal of one wife after another, a person who not only slept around on every wife, but PROCLAIMED it to the press (in the case of Marla Maples, for example).

Also, when it comes to being Christian— JLocke, you? Really? — I was raised Catholic. You don’t get forgiven just for being faithful (which Trump isn’t either, and you know it); you have to express sorrow at your mistake AND take active penance. (Faith AND good works, for those who think in those terms.) When someone is decidedly NOT sorry and even is proud of his sins, there is no reason to think he should be forgiven.

@motivemagus…I think the whole words and deeds thing was part of the reformation.

Poor “jlocke” alone in the wilderness among heathens. But I do wish he would continue to post. It’s interesting to hear him justify the unjustifiable. Unlike the bots, he actually means what he says. I respect his sincerity, even if his explanations tend to mostly be tautological syllogisms.

While I may be doing them a disservice, my understanding of “evangelicals” is from the ones who ring my doorbell to tell me that my religion is wrong and that I must convert to theirs to save my soul.

As far as I see it, “evangelicals” have absolutely no respect for anyone else’s religious beliefs and demand that everyone else bow to theirs.

You cannot have any discussion with someone who has an open mouth and closed ears.

Self-examination is good for the soul. Perhaps you should try it, J Locke. Instead of standing like a Pharisee and praying loudly to be sure that everyone knows how Christian you are, perhaps you might try a little humility. You seem to be very self-righteous and self-congratulatory over your so-called Christian outlook. The curious thing is that you show no humility in your posts and no generosity in your spirit.
