Mitch McConnell has said more than once that his goal is to ensure that Obama is a one-term president. Right-wingers please keep this in mind while trashing this cartoon.
All depends on who the big money people decide to back, Bill. Whoever gets the dough gets the power, it’s as simple as that.
And remember what I said in response to the Auth cartoon. The Republican party is not going to keep the House on nothing more than the campaign rhetoric that got it there. Now they have to deliver, they have to take action that will improve the conditions in this country. The American people want jobs, decent ones, the mortgage crisis dealt with, secure borders, and affordable healthcare. ( Yes, even the folks who don’t like Obamacare, want health care they can afford. )
You’re not going to accomplish ANY of that by ‘thwarting Obama’, and going back to the Bush-era policies…which is the only thing your so -called ‘real’ Republicans have offered so far.
And please Repubs…please start holding impeachment hearings when Boehner takes the gavel; please DO make that your priority in a time of economic crisis.
this tsunami vote was both “wallet and wrath”….the Left’s economic policies have worsened the recession and the Feds have built many barriers to business recovery and are blocking job expansion. Tea Party people have said the same things from Day One, but the Regime in DC chose to ignore the message, and demonized the speakers!
IMO Pelosi’s decision to adjourn without extending the IRS tax rates 2 or 3 years beyond 12/31/10 sealed the Dems doom.
^Name one liberal policy with proof that it worsened the recession. Name a barrrier put up by the fed. More facts, less empty rhetoric.
The only economic-friendly policy the right has is tax cuts. Is everyone forgetting about the 300 billion plus in tax cuts that were in the stimulus and other measures passed in the last two years? We tried that already, guys.
Most of out-of-touch America (particularly the right) thinks their taxes have gone UP, even when they were actually cut.
“Meanwhile they’ll take aim at “Deficit Reductions” with proposals to cut Medicare, Social Security, etc. (let’s not forget HealthCare Reform).”
That’s BS and you know it. We do want deficit reductions but not by cutting Medicare and Social security. That is just a lib talking point that is totally bogus.
Now health care reform is a different animal. That animal has already pushed privatized insurance up 20-40% with no limit in sight. Will force states into horrendous, unsustainable medical expenses above and beyond the current medicare debacle. Most states like “Nevada” will bow out of the program forcing the expenses back to the Fed.
I agree we need medical reform, however “Obamacare” is not the answer. Trash it and start all over. Paul Ryan (R) from WI has some great proposals that he offered to Obama but of course Obama would have nothing to do with it. He might listen now…
Sorry jack, term limits have been shown not to work in the states where they’ve been passed,..and with unlimtied campaign donations now acceptable, that’s even more true today
The only thing that will work is public funding of elections. ( Which would also take union money and George Soro’s bucks out the process, before you righties start screaming. )
Has no one pointed out the similarities between our current health care bill and the proposals of Republicans during the Clinton era, and the plan Romney signed in MA?
All those who will become covered under the new law are already using Medicaid as their major medical plan. They must make themselves bankrupt first, but that’s easy with today’s extremely high costs.
I see you make no mention of costs. Check it out, repealing health care will NOT make any significant difference in the deficit. By some estimates, it will increase it.
If SS, Medicare, defense, and homeland security are off the table, there simply isn’t enough that can be cut to balance the budget. The candidates who plan to balance the budget with spending cuts alone won’t release a specific plan, because the numbers just don’t add up.
I’m waiting for Boehner and McConnell to stand behind their real “representative of values”—Christine O’Donnell. They have two years to show their true hand, all jokers.
“Has no one pointed out the similarities between our current health care bill and the proposals of Republicans during the Clinton era, and the plan Romney signed in MA?”
I have, on numerous occasions. Even Fox News has, surprisingly.
“That animal has already pushed privatized insurance up 20-40% with no limit in sight”
Citation, please. And do not use “we do it because we want to” like the cost increases of AT&T. They were mad because they could no longer double-dip their tax breaks on elderly medicine. Spending $1 and getting $3 in tax exemptions is not how it’s supposed to work.
And just to be fair, don’t use the 40% plan increases that insurance companies were tossing up before the HCR bill that they claimed were necessary due to increased costs [read: executive compensation] and the Health Secretary had to step in and put a stop to because they were bogus (this stipulation is merely rhetorical because it could easily be pointed out that insurance “costs” were already rising at ridiculous rates before the bill).
The Non-Partisan CBO estimates the HCR Bill will lower costs in the long term (10 - 20 years).
That SAME CBO estimates the cost of keeping the Bush Tax cuts at:
$3.3 Trillion (Democrat plan [not include top 2%])
$4 Trillion (Republican plan [all])
So how do “tax cuts” amount to “reducing our deficit”? GOP Magic!
Obama’s policies have already reduced the projected deficit by over $100 billion.
Once again we see: Democrats fix the mess and clean up and reduce deficits; Republicans - spend it all and claim credit for their policies.
Also, jades numbers are spot on accurate. You need to go back and re-read his post because it is the truth.
Simon Jester is also right when he says that the GOP should go after Obama in investigations. Look what that got them in the 1990s with President Clinton. Investigations (not that there is anything to investigate because this has been the most transparent White House ever) would be a godsend to the Democrats in 2012.
And THAT was during an economic boom. Try wasting that much time, money and energy on an investigation that goes nowhere during a recession and watch what happens
Have you noticed how angry the Repubs are that us Dems AREN’T throwing hissy-fits?

No trashing here.
This is truth I agree with. We Conservatives had better not compromise on ANYTHING coming out of this White House.
We Conservatives are coming to take our party back and will send any RINOs packing just like we did this year.
The house cleaning is NOT complete. Take heed Lott, Graham and McCain, et. al.!

Yeah yeah Bill….that’s what the conservatives said in the Contract with America.
And how did THAT work out for you?
Have you noticed that when the R’s attack the ‘liberals’ they NEVER do it in specific terms? Perfect example, the way they always bash Nancy Pelosi.
They never any specific examples of what she did that was so awful, just liberal this, socialist that, evil the other.
willikiii over 13 years ago
Yeah S_J, I know.
I can only hope we are not coopted by the Graham, McCain. Lott Progressive types.
Lott has already stated “we will just have to marginalize them.”
Maybe we can be stronger than that and turn it on the RINOs.
We have a good start in “flyover” country. Now we have to translate that to DC.
