Not just those jerks, LOTS of folks, like Trumpes, and Reagan supporters who say government is the problem, scream first for help when it hits the fan, or hurricane.
I am waiting for the wrong-wingers to demand that disaster relief be “paid for” by cutting some other budget item. I will especially enjoy hearing that from any Texas Republicans. Like, for example, Louis Gohmert.
While I would indeed cherish the latter, it is a fool’s choice. A) There is money built into the federal budget every year for disaster relief. B) Cutting spending somewhere else defeats the whole point of disaster relief, which is to restore through economic stimulus what used to exist in that area. Or at least a reasonable facsimile. And maybe something better (ask N’Awlins). By depressing economic activity somewhere else, you are negating the beneficial effects of disaster relief.
I like the toon, but I did see – on MSNBC, no less – considerable coverage of neighbors bringing out their boats to rescue people. Many people not only didn’t wait on the government to come, they took action on their own. And the “Cajun Navy” did it even after being shot at.
I’m sure Pat Robertson will be along any minute now to tell us how God’s wrath has been called down upon the people of Texas because of their unholy liberal licentiousness.
There are currently intangible issues that affect us as much as, or more than Harvey does. I wish we could work together on those too …. instead of not listening to each other, and then regurgitating useless, irrelevant, party propaganda.
We are Americans, we’ll save them, even though they didn’t want to save fellow Americans when it was their turn to step up. Maybe we can show them what it means to live in a great America. We can save them so they can go on to continue to pollute and make these events happen more often. We can save them so they can defund FEMA. We can save them so they can continue to deny rights to anyone who doesn’t look like them, or believe in their religion. We can save them because when you save an American, you are helping us all. And when you attack an American, even on twitter or funny comic message boards, you attack us all.
Trump has shown no empathy for the victims in Texas, real Americans can all show empathy for those affected by this tragedy. He couldn’t even be bothered to help feed people or pass out clothes or water. Something you’ll never see trump do: Trump serving meals in Texas. He can go down and do an advertisement for his clothing line, 100% of the proceeds go to the Trumps.
I just keep reading the stories about people helping people. The Louisiana flat boats came over right away to help people whose homes were submerged. The human chain that helps the woman in labor get to the hospital. The jet ski Rescue of an elderly couple stranded in a home surrounded by water. Ted Cruz should be ashamed of himself. He has caused millions of dollars to be cut from programs that help in disaster relief. And now his state needs help he’s standing there with his hand out. The news media that Trump has belittled from day one is out there in the wet rain filming all of the heroic stories and trying to make a difference. They’re the ones that film little ladies up to their waists in water and help them get helped. They alerted the authorities to looting going on. It was the media filming water being sold at $49 a case by Best Buy. It was stories of people helping people regardless of skin color regardless of religion the that news media made the country aware.of conditions in areas hit so badly by Harvey.
It’s true we have some scummy, hypocritical people here. As a liberal Texan among many liberals and moderates who did not vote for that bloated man-baby or any of his ilk, I’m tired of this theme of “Evil Texans who deserve to drown.” For those paying attention, they’ll have seen how close we came to changing this to a blue state in the 2016 election. They’ll see the battles we are fighting to try to save our rights for women, children, and POC. They’ll see the ongoing, and fruitful, battles against the gerrymandering. For those just wishing to give lip service to being “inclusive,” they’ll continue to just rule out another group of people as being “bad” and “other” and look just as hypocritical as the far right.

I hope they send black helicopters from the UN to rescue them.

Maybe they should light a cross or wave a Tiki torch so FEMA can find them. It should be easy to do in a flood.

Spending on “other” people is Texas’ problem; on themselves is okay.

Maybe the orange one could donate the money he makes selling his USA 45 baseball hats. $40.00 on his campaign website.

Here I thought it was the wrong comic, but then again, “They’ll do it every time.”
