This is all getting so complex. Tiffany may get scrutinized by the security cop a second time, even though she had nothing to do with this last event.

Contrary to some of the other early commentors, this arc is continuing to be interesting, full of twists and turns, today careening into Tiffany’s entrance. I was expecting her entry somewhere in this arc, but I was wondering when, and I can’t think of a better time than when Piro, whom we are learning more about in a dramatic drip, drip, drip kind of way, is circumstantially at once more explained as a student at Mooney, but not one who had a right to be at the dorm, and is worried about getting Bernice in trouble, but at the same time looking very guilty given the circumstances he finds himself in. How will Tiffanys’ entrance into this mystery stew turn out? Well I think she will protect him as well, which means that she and Bernice feel the same way about this young man. Very interesting, and those who moan about the development of the plot just don’t understand this strip. The rest of us like the fun.

A man is leaving a co-ed college dormitory after midnight and the security guy is asking him how he got in? No college student would take this storyline seriously and I certainly don’t. I fear that Tiffany will play the slut card in order to save Piro, but I would be really impressed if Evans did not go that way.

Wow, nice deus ex machina (deus ex Tiffina?) to keep Bernice from ever facing any consequences for her actions. As I said the other day, Tiffany’s the only one who ever gets punished for anything in this strip, so it’s only fitting she’d come out of nowhere (despite it being after midnight and not having any friends to hang out with) to take the bullet.

Ok, we learned that Piro is actually enrolled at Moony (Mooney?) because he was asking Bernice about a professor whose lectures he had trouble with. And now, if there was any doubt he was a student, he can produce an ID card. So we are slowly learning the backstory of this character. That’s a good thing. Now let’s see how he gets out of being blamed for the broken snack machine…

It’s not realistic that the whole snack machine would be empty. Snack machines have little corkscrew metal things that push your candy off of them and then the next one moves forward to the front. The one in the strip looks like it just has 4 shelves where all the snacks were on… How the hell would that work?? LOL I also think smashing the glass would make so much noise people would come out of their dorms to see what was going on. As for Piro, he should just admit he was studying with Bernice and lost track of time. I think Bernice should lose her position too…she has abused her power and proven unworthy of it with her whole Piro obsession.

First, Bernice and Piro should just tell the whole truth. That she was tutoring Piro and time slipped away. The proof would be the study notes in the backpack. Bernice would probably just get a warning about breaking the rules. There is scant evidence that Piro broke into the vending machine. Second, vending machine windows are made of polycarbonate (Plexiglass *TM). Polycarbonate does not shatter in little pieces as shown in the strip. Third, is Tiffany sneaking in after having a late night tryst with the jock that is Luann’s classmate?? ;-)

the small amount of broken glass on the floor is from it bouncing off the insides and coming out. Note it does NOT look anywhere near enough to make up the broken front. The majority of it must be inside the machine.

Piro had better hope that this is just a security monitor, like in that commercial…

    -

…if not, he’d better hope that he can remember that one MacGyver episode, and remember how to rig a power failure, and a way to have a makeshift night vision lens….

Or better yet, maybe even a MacGruber episode…

Students are allowed to have friends in their dorms. Why in the world wouldn’t Piro just say he was in a friend’s dorm studying?? So he stayed 2 hours past curfew? That is not a big deal. Certainly not as big as getting arrested for breaking into the vending machine.

Maybe Tiffany is the thief? Just joking. But Piro may soon find himself in a romantic tug of war, and Bernice may find herself being expected to penalize Tiffany for what she did. The gravy thickens, but pretty soon Greg may rename this strip “Bernice & Tiffany.” Where’s Luann?

I just want to point out that if Tiffany is just coming into the dorm by herself, she hasn’t violated any dorm rules that have been established. Bernice has said that the rule was no guests after 10 PM. She’s never said that the dorm residents themselves had to be in the dorm by 10 PM.

In fact, the first night that we saw Bernice enforcing the 10 PM curfew, Dez told her that she was on her way to a rave, so it must have been okay with Bernice that Dez was not in the dorm at 10.

Overall it is interesting to anticipate what Tiffany may end up doing as she enters this situation. With all the speculation, my own prediction is perhaps more mundane, but I will suggest that:

Tiffany will simply say to the security guard (who looks relatively similar to “Blart” the Mall Cop), “Piro was studying with me.”

I think Tiffany will do this because I tend to doubt that she will care a whole lot if she gets a “demerit” for having someone there past curfew. And, I sincerely doubt a) that of the hundreds of kids in the dorm, that this is the first time someone was caught having a guest past curfew, and b) I doubt that any university would make a particularly strong penalty for such an infraction….. more likely something “slap-on-the-wrist” (minor), if anything.

For me, a bigger issue is the phrase that the security guard uses…. “No KeyCard…. How’d you get in?” To me, that is a rather obtuse and idiotic statement for the guard to make. 1) Unless Moony is particularly peculiar, every dorm I have been aware of in the last dozen years with a KeyCard system, has a period of time (normal daylight hours) where no KeyCard is necessary. 2) No University that I am aware of has ever had a policy where NO NON-RESIDENTS can ever enter the building. Residents are allowed to have guests. For me, the guard is being purposefully obtuse with the “How’d you get in?” statement. He would know there were hundreds of ways for this to occur.

Now, I do get he is trying to see if Piro is the vandal. But, still, his asking how he “got in” to the dorm, that is foolish for him to ask. He would have been more logical to simply ask, “Who were you visiting?” or “Which dorm resident let you in?” Both of these questions would still have elicited the “Uh” from Piro, but they would have been more logical for the security guard fellow to say.

That CamPo is cheesed that he had to leave his cushy office to do rounds after the TV went missing, so now he has to show results.

Meanwhile, Tiffany will feel compelled to give Piro (pjɛʁo) an alibi, then Bernice will show up in her flannel night gown having heard the ruckus and will have her own variant of the “truth”.Perhaps Dez will put in an appearance with her own {{{ wink, wink! }}} take on things.

Whatever way this turns out, the Head RA is going to have a conniption fit!

In giving this some thought from a far side, two days ago, a few here mentioned fragments of something on the carpet in the hallway just outside Bern’s door. Yesterday, someone mentioned that it looked like it could have been fragments of the glass from the vending machine. Just how long was Bernice gone while she was getting snacks for her beloved Piro? Desperate to please him and bring in a tray with all those goods on it, did SHE break into the machine herself to obtain some of those snacks? After all, with the infractions she is currently guilty of, what’s one more?

    .

Tune in to tomorrow’s episode: “Something Is Up”

    .

    Or

    .

    “She’s Going Down”

    .

(Yeah, I know – most of the snacks on the tray would not have been the type to be in the machine anyway. But then, it is Greg’s machine, he could draw in candy, chips, crackers, engine blocks, kitchen sinks, chinchillas, or even a live squid if he wanted to. Perhaps the glass got broken when someone selected the engine block. Anything is possible in Luanniverse.)
