Remember that in 3 days, we will have a government run by Steven Colbert’s character from his late-night show on Comedy Central. Not exactly him, of course, but the attitude and certainty are right there along with the utter disregard for objective facts. Watch it happen before your eyes and I guarantee that this man will experience catastrophic failure in his new occupation. He will refuse to accept what is painfully obvious to everyone else and, who knows, maybe even precipitate the biggest constitutional crisis since Richard Nixon. And he will be dragging down the country and potentially the globe with him.
Frankly, Obamacare was a kludge to begin with. It was invented by the conservative Heritage Foundation as a way to funnel big federal bucks to the private-sector insurance industry. Then President Obama embraced it as the only politically achievable way to cover an additional 25,000,000 Americans, and suddenly its right-wing authors hated it.
The only real answer to health care in America is a national single-payer system, which the current regime will fight tooth and nail. But maybe the crisis that they’ll precipitate by repealing Obamacare after so many people got used to it will finally push everybody over the brink, the same way we finally got Medicare all those years ago.
Congress changed the law several years ago, but never publicized it much. They now, I believe, have to choose from the Federal Health Plan groups, or get it on their own. But long time Congressmen could keep what they had. I think the FEHBP should be the model, with some changes to strengthen underperforming areas.
Interesting that Trump is now touting “Health Care for All.” Sounds like Single Payer to me. Also sounds like Hillary’s plan from the 90s. Think it’ll get through a Republican Congress?
Kevin Drum’s theory on how Trump will come up with an awesome plan that helps everyone seems convincing: Trump will announce some stupid plan that doesn’t do any good, and then lie over and over that it’s awesome and it helps everyone. It’s not like he ever gets called on his lies.
My heart goes out to all who have to put up with Trump the next four years and the Republican congress that will destroy what little we lower middle class have.
These morons won’t even repeal it, they’ll stamp it with a T and pretend like they created it. The minority of the people who helped Russia install Trump as our leader fell for that football, but it is all of us who are going to end up on our backs. They believed the Republicans and once again, got fooled.
My question is what exactly are they going to repeal? If they repeal the whole thing then its back to pre-existing conditions, lifetime payouts, and the end of subsidies for those states where Medicare was expanded. Let’s hope they don’t go there.
Toles doesn’t hate, he gives ideas for people to consider. Considering the Republicans have voted against their own legislative proposals, once Obama said he favored them (see: Mitch McConnell), is it any wonder that he skewers them for repeal and replace, when THEY can’t even believe their own rhetoric?And I’ve seen plenty of skewering of Dems on his site. Since Republicans hold all the power, THEY’RE the ones who will get skewered.

Just give everyone the same health coverage that Congress has. Equal means equal.
