The only help I need is would you please put it in the upper part of the basket where it all fit quite nicely when I brought it to the register? I don’t want to have to stand on my head to get it out of the cart when I get to my car.
Our hometown grocery still has folks to bag your food and walks everyone to the car. It’s an old school “opt-out” philosophy. You are never asked if you want help.
I remember when I got offered my first senior discount. Poor counter guy thought he had insulted me. I told him No, but I just didn’t expect it today, in front of my adult son who teased me the whole way home. And I still took it.
I’m a fan of the hand-held scanners that allow you to scan your groceries and bag them as you wander about the store. Much quicker at the check-out – shorter lines, and no need for bagging once you’re there.
The clerks at my local supermarket always bag your groceries, load them in a cart, bring them out to your car or a taxi, and load them in the trunk, cheerfully. The taxi driver will even assist you unloading his trunk and set your groceries by your front door, without asking or expecting a tip !
While this is all good, I am perfectly capable of doing all those things, myself. Where I really would appreciate the help ( especially on a hot day ) is in schlepping the bags up two flights of stairs to my apartment !

Here, in Ecuador, you can still get real Coca Cola made with cane sugar. You can also buy soda in either glass or plastic bottles. Funny thing, though, You can buy a large bottle of Coke in a glass bottle for $!.00 but a slightly smaller version in a plastic one is $1.25The glass bottles are returnable, too.
Glass and/or plastic is more popular than aluminum cans. Even the grocery stores sell more six-packs of bottled beer than cans !

I put frozen food together to retard thawing (and it goes to a freezer in an ex-garage), thus saving having to unload in the house, then repack in a bag to take to the freezer..JonniWhen I read “milk in a bag”, I thought of the Canadian (first seen in Washington) practice of packaging milk in bags so it spills more easily..We have to request our gallon milk be put into plastic bags before putting in our canvas bags because it is over 40 miles from the store to home, otherwise the condensate escapes even the canvas bag. They are the nearest Kroger with lower milk prices even before their “geriatric discount”.
To all about the real Coca Cola: I drive a delivery truck for a wholesale co. We did carry real Coke, Pepsi, and Sprite from Mexico. Made with the original recipe ingredients. Very popular here. S.E. Oklahoma.

One of the perils of working for a major grocery chain is the rote phrases the employees are required to say. At a Safeway I witnessed a customer being asked if she needed any assistance with her purchase. Well, she did not and got REALLY SERIOUSLY offended. She had purchased a gift card and only a gift card. Dunno if she ever returned to a Safeway.

Just go to Winco. Not only will they not ask if you need help, they make you bag your own groceries.

I was asked if I wanted my gallon of milk in a bag. Why? Does it make it easier to carry? Its already in a plastic container with a handle anyway.
