Even the victims of Andy’s bit of old ultra-violence seem to stand in single file…….or lie around in single file! I was at my niece’s baptism yesterday, and I suddenly started to wonder if Andy or Flo have middle names. (Hey, I’m as religious as the next person but I can multi-task!) Maybe one of our resident Andy experts would know? For that matter, was Flo’s maiden name ever mentioned, possibly in an episode involving her mum or her sister?

Richard Smyth married Florrie Pearce at the Congregationalist Chapel in Hartlepool on December 23, 1916. They’d met less than a year earlier, but Richard had managed to get Florrie pregnant almost immediately, and she was already carrying Reg when she walked up the aisle for what The Sunderland Echo later confirmed was a shotgun wedding. Richard at the time was 23, and his bride just 19
