Hey “One-Eye.” I WOULDN’T be so QUICK to Dump Your “Art” if I were YOU. Original Don Van Vliet’s are bringing In a King’s Ransom these Days.

And Kudos to YOU Luann on the amount Growth You sustained during the Year! You might wanna Bottle some of that “Growth” up and Hand it to Your “friend” Bernice as She is acting GOOFIER than You Did when You were Inexplicably “in love” with The “Manikin.”

To the Big Guy. NOW’S Your Chance! Luann is between Boyfriends and Could USE a Summer Distraction. I Hear She LOVES the “Caveman Type.” So USE some of Your “Arting Skills,” and fashion a Paper Mache Club, and “ask” Her out to Your Cave. (Void where Prohibited by Law)

Finally, Professor Ze-Bats, a question before You, HOPEFULLY, Disappear from THIS Strip, FOREVER. Does That Bowtie of Yours SPIN like a Propeller attached to an Evinrude when You are in AWKWARD Social Settings??

Oh, for goodness sake! James, it does not take religion to be destructive. You appear to be intelligent enough to express an opinion in a way that is not destructive, so why didn’t you, and the ugliness of using the “c” word is out of place here, just as the ugliness of one recently repeatedly using the “d” word was.You have a point that religion is often used – more accurately ABused – to promote violence. Just, please, try to say that better. If you expressed yourself with verbal violence due to a loss or losses or fears of loss in the horrible attack then you have my sympathy and hugs.Religion can be constructive. There are people fed by food banks. There are poor who are clothed. There are children watched while parents work. There are people who find comfort. There are people who find direction. Others find community. Of course, it does not take religion to do these things; kindness, altruism, support, and the other many wonderfully constructive aspects of humanity are as present in athiests as in the religious. But, it also does not take religion to have violence. I submit that while it is and has been used as an excuse for violence, that violence exists without it, too, and it often really is nothing more than an excuse, in this case an individual’s way of trying to excuse his homophobia in killing those at the nightclub. A perfect example of religion used as an excuse for violence was the fourth crusade in which the Doge of Venice and his allies sought to regain trade control from Constantinopol (now Istanbul) and there being a difference in primary religions was merely the excuse to line pockets. So, James, your concern that some might use their beliefs to counter or augment violence with violence, is a valid one, though you might want to consider better wording that is more indicative of the thought you are capable of putting into it. But, there are constructive ways that religion can be used as a tool.As to one poster’s question of “whose religion?”, honestly, who cares? Any one of them, or lack of them can be used positively, or abused for negative results depending mostly on the individual. I have never seen a religion actually make a person good or bad, but i have seen a very large number of religions abused to excuse evil, or used constructively to promote altruism.

Luann states “a whole year of art”. Unless times have changed, the normal college year is Sept – Dec, and late Jan – early May – two semesters a year (with special compressed courses offered during brakes). That comment indicated she took two semesters of art???? So they will be sophomores in a couple of months. Time to grow up everyone!

Given my experience with college students Eno the goth might just have gotten the highest grade, but cares about what he did to get it the least. Anyway, I await developments. After all the tension of the last week to 10 days this is kind of a breather I think.

7While I am not surprised that “Emory” (Emo) has dumped his own art (he never seemed to like anything he did all during this class), the idea of throwing art away makes me cringe…. even if it is not very good. And yes, I do know it is unrealistic to try to keep everything. But…. none-the-less, it does make me cringe to see it being dumped. I have really enjoyed Professor Zebo, “Jacque” (Jock), and “Emory” (Emo) as characters, and I do hope that all three continue on as characters in the comic even if they are away for the Summer. To me, the classroom experiences here that Luann has had have been amongst the freshest additions to the comic since the cadre started college. Do not get me wrong, I have liked the various “Dez” story arcs too…. but to me, I have enjoyed Zebo et. al., even more.

Except for seeing Mr. Reign (?) call the roll in his “Our Digital World” (?) class, the only thing we have seen at all of Luann’s Community College experience is Prof. Zebu’s art class. (Maybe art is the only subject Greg Evans remembers from his own college days, so that’s what he writes about?) I suppose that means that Prof. Zebu is the new Fogarty, and he is the only teacher we shall see next year, and the year after that, etc., until Greg Evans retires? I hope Luann enjoys his class, but I’m not sure just how much value this experience will be once she gets her A.A. degree and ventures out into the “real world”.

The very concept of a satan has always bothered me personally, not only because it just does not make sense to me intellectually, but also because i think it is way too often used as a label for anyone different, and also as an excuse for making no progress (or worse) instead of people finding constructive solutions.Of course, not all belief systems have one. Some have evil being the individual’s deliberate turning away from goodness instead of nurturing goodness. That puts responsibility where it belongs, i think.

My take on it is that Greg has some issues to work out with art teachers he knew during his own formative years, before it was clear he’d be supporting his family for a lifetime with his art.

And @Lamberger: Surely you can see that allowing everyone to have guns in a place with dim lighting and alcohol being served is not a way to reduce the body count. Think it through, please. Yours was a spectacularly silly application of a particularly silly argument against gun control.

I just read all of the comments that are not about the strip but are instead about the terrible incident on Saturday. I paid particular attention to how that side discussion turned to spiritual beliefs, and I would like to share my feelings..I was raised Roman Catholic but have not been an active member of that church for more than 35 years now. My own beliefs are closer to them than any other “organized” religion except that I have an agnostic view of some of the teachings they hold dear..I believe in a Supreme being but my definition of “God” is closer to the one given by Night-Gaunt. Therefore I am not as reliant on prayer as a plea to God as would many who identify as Christian..That said, I find theological discussions interesting, until someone starts quoting Bible passages by specific chapter and verse. (Hi, Contessa!) When that happens I start to feel like I am being lectured to, and the tediousness and predictability of sermons were a significant factor in my leaving the Catholic church as an active participant..I would personally feel more comfortable if the line were drawn right ahead of that point..And I also find it sad that the shooter in Orlando apparently had ties to Islamic State, because this will just give the “all Muslims are bad” faction more reason to spew their own hate.

Van Gogh started painting when he was 27 and died when he was 37, and the paintings for which he would eventually become famous were done in the last 2 years of his life. This makes it a bit easier to understand why he sold only one painting in his lifetime (that we know of, by name – some people believe that he may have sold some other paintings early on that are not known to us).

I agree with NIght. Can you imagine having a bunch of guns in that overcrowded venue. My side question is where the hell is the fire marshal? That seemed to be way too many people in that club. But anyway there would be far more dead, and it would be difficult to figure out who was the bad guy. No that is stupid, and those who support their 2nd amendment arguments by saying we should all have guns all the time would only magnify the carnage we are now living with exponentially.

-As it turns out, the killer had repeatedly visited sites in Central Florida to decide which one to hit. He had visited DisneyWorld a number of times, and had been to the Pulse. He decided on the gay club.

Although the killer called ‘911’ during the time he was shooting and declared himself a follower of so-called ISIS (Daesh), coworkers who had reported the killer before had indicated that he constantly slurred gays, blacks, women and Jews while carrying out his guard duties.

This killer was a sick puppy who was further influenced in his own home to favor extremist views, because his father has his own YouTube show and radio show that both praise the Taliban. The killer was a ticking time bomb…
