I’ll bet that farmer wasn’t happy, loosing his land to a volcano.

If you turn the panel here 90 degree, ‘twill look like the whale’s snores are in Ns. (I guess the whale would drown if it slept vertically nose down.)

Continued research shows that Dionisio Pulido became the only known person in history to own and eventually sell a volcano. Dr. Atl, an artist bought it.To those who were interested enough to do further reading and not familiar with Mexican farms. Many times the farmers don’t live on the land, but live in nearby small villages, going out to work their land during the day and returning to the village at evening.

I saw an 8 mm silent film documentary in college about this. One scene showed natives creeping down a mountain at about 1/2 mile per day pace. Caption “Natives Flee Volcano!” It was funny.

Like many others here, I remember this story when I was in elementary school. When he saw the smoke coming out of the crack, he put his hat on it. After he had the volcano, he made a lot of money and came out way ahead.

But he said later, “I sure do miss that hat.”

A sleeping whale would have to either have to have its blowhole above water, or bob up from time to time to breath.

Nice to know Poe had something positive going on in his lifetime.

Poe was a student at UVa while its founder, Thomas Jefferson, was still alive.

I was 7 years old at the time and followed it’s progress on the news (radio that is). Because of the war it did not get that much coverage.

So Edgar Allan Poe was at UVa while still in his teens, then; he was born in 1809 and Thomas Jefferson died in 1826.
