I’ve eaten only one oyster in my life and never plan to again. Yet I love fried clams, which seem to be very similar in their raw state. Maybe if they batter fried those oysters instead.

I never met an oyster I didn’t like, but I met one once that didn’t like me!

I ate a raw oyster to see what it was like. A mouthful of fishy tasting slime with a Tabasco finish. Only once. I now take my Tabasco sauce straight.

Well, here in Texas they do fry oysters. But I don’t think it’s much of an improvement. Eating them is like eating chicken gizzards (if you don’t know, don’t ask). The longer you chew one, the bigger it gets.

Living in the midwest, I rarely get a chance to enjoy fresh shucked oysters. It is likely a love/hate relationship as it is with many foods, but fresh oyster washed down with a good champaign is a nice treat. Although I never tried beer with oysters, I am told they go well together. As far as any side benefit to eating oysters, I will avoid the discussion as this is a family site!

As I always say about unique foods, everything in moderation…

And people that drown them in sauces are wimps.Sprinkle on a little salt, and down they go.After i chew them a couple of times to release the juices.

It’s amusing to imagine the circumstances of the discovery of various things. Take camel IUDs, for example. Hundreds of years with no unwanted camel pregnancies during those thousand mile treks along the Silk Road. The answer: peach pits!

Personally I think the first to eat an Oyster raw, was just hungry, and didn’t have the patience to make a fire and wait for them to cook.
