I thought you’re supposed to carry a baby in FRONT of you, not on your back, so you can see what’s going on with your baby

Most of the early baby carriers were back-packs. Some of them were just aluminum pack frames supporting a cloth bag with leg holes. They may have been originally designed as a way to take your baby along while hiking.

Love the name, but it would really sell if it were a product. Not much to do about deer (seen them do a standing leap over an 8 foot fence…) but plant things they do not like (like lamb’s ears) spam flagged

I would buy that product, if it existed. Even if we didn’t have deer, which we do (it’s a new house, but I’ve seen many deer tracks already).

Can’t wait to plant plants this Spring! We’ll have to get on that soon

Infants go in front. Toddlers - which Lizzie and Richard are - go in back.

Love the product name! Agree with Avolunteer, though, unless you’re willing to build a 12 foot high fence, not much will keep the deer out. I’ve seen them open a gate, when the latch wasn’t secure. Spam flagged. How many flags does it take to get rid of it?

Being an Alaskan, our problem isn’t deer, it’s moose. They have an uncanny ability to know when you are ready to harvest, and wipe out your garden the night before. A fence doesn’t do it, they jump them. I finally foiled them with a fence, not to keep them out, but to keep my 2 large dogs in. They don’t like dogs so much.

I find that once deer are cleaned and in the freezer they don’t do much nibbling on the plants as for the Scarecrow , deer arn’t as dumb as birds , once they see the thing doesn’t move or chase them they will ignore it.

We once had a neighbor who grew watermelons for sale and he had lots of problems with the deer. They use a hoof to poke a hole in the melon then stick their nose in and lap up the whole inside he had a field of melons that looked like deflated basketballs and some fat happy deer. He made his money back by leasing the land to some hunters come fall Sweet revenge.

It figures she would like that one. I never could figure out how someone so uptight and cold ended up with three kids.

Nothing keeps the deer away forever. They get used to everything, including the bars of Irish Spring, and the coffee grounds. Just let them be. They’re hungry, and so are their babies. Don’t use poisons.

Liquid Fence may be what my mother uses. I’m not sure. She found something. The worst part about them are the ticks. Both my dogs are on medication for Lyme DIsease now! That’s the drawback of living in the woods with state trails all around.

I do not condone shooting them, and neither does the law in most states. I especially don’t condone shooting them as “pests”. It’s sickening to joke about it. There are plenty of legal ways to shoot them for food, but not for fun or “revenge”. That’s just sociopathic.

And ya, I have guns, permits and a lifelong NRA membership. I’m not anti guns at all. Don’t even start with that, it isn’t the point.

It’s unusual for Lynn Johnston use the name of a real product as a source of humour for her comic strip. See the link for the real product of Not Tonight Deer deer repellent:

    http://www.nottonight.com/*

howtheduck: Thanks for the link! How hilarious is that?! I did notice, however, at the bottom it says copyright 1999-2006 so maybe Lynn didn’t copy it from them … maybe they copied it from her!?!?!?

    F - L - A - G - G - E - D the spam here and over at the C&H site too. How annoying!!!!!

Littledutchboy, I answed this question for you on Shoe. I won’t repost it, here. I might get flagged for spamming, lololol! Thanks for the high praise and vote of confidence in my “abilities”, lol.

Maybe we can all use The Force, and will away the SPAM!

Burgundy2 I know all about the crazy Canadian long gun mess! Don’t worry, that’s all currently being scrapped by the same bunch of maroons that got it put in place, costing Canadians billions of dollars for nothing, and depriving you of your privacy, your money, and your right to protect yourselves,

I love Chuck Connors as The Rifleman, but I prefer handguns. I don’t hunt. We have to shoot at a range here. I have Zombie targets and Osama Bin Laden targets. He’s so ugly, you can’t wait to shoot his whole face out.

Alas, you are so right Susan – and she would have done it from a helicopter. We’ve managed to keep the deer out primarly with garlic. Just sprinkle a few cloves around (my husband chops it up, but it’s not necessary) and if you push the whole cloves in the ground, it sometimes starts to grow. Keeps the rabbits at bay too. Alas, it does not work for spam. Another flag for what it’s worth.

JFri; The fence is a much better option. How could anyone kill a beautiful creature like a deer. We have deer that go through the neighbour’s yard on the way to the Sechelt Inlet. We have a fence, because we also have dogs. But the deer are so awesome to watch. The meat isn’t needed, you have grocery stores for that stuff. Wanton shooting of animals is horrible!

Burgundy2: How oh how did Canada make it too much of a hassel to own guns? Could it work in the US?

In Europe, the murder rate is in double-digits In the US, it’s triple-digits, no wait, the 1000’s. I don’t understand why that is not the ONLY STATISTIC THAT COUNTS? I have always wondered if most members of the NRA aren’t dreaming about and drolling over the thought of Revolution. I’m glad I’m old.

    howtheduck: Thanks for the info.

While I know that Lynn occasionally “tweaks” her comics these days to sort of “update” them a little bit, I had no idea she was still drawing new (“old”) FBorFW comic strips.

I didn’t start reading this comic until well after April was born so these early strips are all “new” to me (so I wouldn’t know the difference (at this stage in the Pattersons’ lives) between strips she drew years ago and strips that she’s currently drawing now).
