The Metro is a train made of hand baskets. The Devil is the conductor. Devil: Due to money issues, we'll be switching from eight-car to six-car handbaskets.
jack: Wrong. I care, and I’ve only visited DC a few times. What’s happening with the Metro is similar to what’s happening across the country. I rode it back in the 80s, and it was wonderful – as it should be for something financed by thhe entire country. But Congress has apparently decreed thhat only the .1% matter, anf the Metro has become a miserable experience for all those peasants who have to use it. Corruption in DC itself is probably not helping, either.
@jack75287You think financing only the roads and bridges you personally use is a good thing? What if I don’t use the same roads and bridges? We need to put the “social” back in “social contract.”
A new interpretation of Charon fairing souls to Hades across the river Styx? Only here we have Satan himself, or one of his high ranking demons, using the Subway? Cool.
I haven’t ridden the Metro since it was new and wonderful. Unfortunately nowadays anything that has the word “public” associated with it is sabotaged by those who think “we” and “us” and “ours” are dirty words and only “I” and “me” and “mine” are proper. As our infrastructure continues to age and decay, while we protest against any money spent on the “general good” and not on us personally, we increasingly live in a country that looks more “third world” than first. In understand that there are water mains in use in DC that were installed during the Lincoln Administration. We have put off and put off maintaining our country, and eventually more and more things are going to break and break down, and we will throw up our hands and say “How could such a thing happen!”<br?

May be confusing to some international readers. If so, there is a Wikipedia entry that will help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_hell_in_a_handbasket
