All you have to do is ask the All-Knowing Wiki:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Elf_on_the_Shelf

Yes, it’s real, and too many people have them. Several friends of ours have one, and they think it’s funny. They move it every night to give the impression that the elf is really alive and checking up on the kids from a different vantage point. I think it’s a little creepy, too. But then, so is the “Santa sees you when you’re sleeping” thing.

I’ve got several friends that have them, but now they stress over the inevitable question “Why didn’t he move last night, Mommy?” They have to get creative all of a sudden, or let the kids down.

    Who gets to define “good?”

Fight the power! Contain the power!

Hope that the elf on your shelf isn’t the one who wants to be a dentist.

If these kids what to be good then they should put a camera in it and move it around the station instead.

I think it’s curious that this year, for the first time that I recall, someone has introduced a Hanukkah analog called the Mensch on the Bench.
