I just love hearing city folk proclaim the ubiquity of cellular service. Out here in rural America (90% of our country) cell service can be spotty or nonexistent. I have many friends and family who don’t have reliable service at home. To call 911 on a cell they might have to drive up to a few miles. Tough to do while having a heart attack. And don’t believe Verizon’s solid red coverage map, I can prove it’s bunk.
A nice fat phone book is something I miss having. They have these little bitty skinny things full of advertising now, with incomplete listings. I liked the big fat complete ones. So much easier to use than the Internet — and they work when the power goes out, never need recharging…

I just bought a house phone in case there’s a blackout. That’s the only kind of phone that’ll work in case there is a blackout.

In Denver, we still get phone books, but as there are no little Nelsons running around the house, we have no use for the phone books.
