@ Radish:Dear Radish,A bit off topic, but is your avatar a photo of you, or some historical figure that I do not recognize?I ask because last year I let my hair and beard grow out for many months; throw a pair of glasses on him and I looked very much like your avatar. I eventually gave in to a haircut and beard trimming, but I rather miss looking like a Civil War general.

Click-to-enlarge image can be found here or here. Smaller enlargement can be found at the only work, by this artist, so far, to appear in Mr. Melcher’s blog. The Skater (Portrait of William Grant) is shown, with a different coloration image, and described, by its current-location page. Another different coloration image can be found here, and another one can be found here; but there are several different coloration or detail images of it online. If you want to read about the painting’s details, this has a 9 page article you can read for free online (after registering). The artist’s Wikipedia page and collection (more under Subcategories at each level).

As an established trendsetter in men’s hosiery, Monsignor Boitano was just a “little” ahead of his time, in that it took another 175 years until the “Hokey Pokey” caught on at skating and roller rinks accross the country…..--he is however, recognised at a modest memorial in Poughkeepsie….
