Earl: Amazing... nearly 120,000 Texans have already signed the petition to leave the union! And here's another group that petitioning the government... to expel Texas from the union! Duke: Hell, I'd sign that one. What's the group? Earl: "Forget the Alamo!"

Let Texas and South Carolina secede. As long as we keep Austin, TX and their liberals, if any.

Ever since the Alamo, you can’t find good Mexican food this side of the Rio Grande.

Me, too, I’ll sign it. But Mississippi, Missouri, Louisiana, Georgia, Alabama and Indiana have to go, too. Oh, and Tennessee, Northern Florida, and Kansas
jnik23260 over 11 years ago
Don’t worry – we’ll allow plenty of time for people on either side of the Border to emigrate to the side more in keeping with their politics. That means Idaho will lose its Neo-Nazis, and there will be a brain drain from Austin.

I’d sign it, too! Put it on the Web!

You forgot to add Oklahoma to your list, but leave Kansas alone. We go through periods of dementia, but eventually the pendulum will swing back. Gov. Brownbag can’t stay forever.

Why don’t you just all secede and split into separate states? Then you could have your wars with one another. The rest of the world would thank you for it.

There’s a lovely little SF story where the ENTIRE population of Texas packed up, lock, stock and barrell and relocated to another Planet. Taking the ‘Sacred Stones’ of the Alamo with them, and re-building it on ‘New Texas.’
Retaining their ‘feisty’ independance and their ‘Heavily-Armed’ neutrality they became something of a thorn in the side of the Galactic powers.
It’s by H. Beam Piper, and titled “A Planet For Texans”
Find it and Enjoy!

I have a few progressive friends (and a brother) in Texas who are shaking their heads. Every state has progressive residents, and I’m sure they’d appreciate a more progressive state. However, there’s this thing about home and family (not to mention jobs) that makes it hard to move. Sigh. It’s hard for them, but when Texas is expelled, they should know there are many in the US who will sympathize with their quandary.

Demography is destiny they say. Texas is becoming a Latino-majority state. At the moment, Latinos are 38% of the state (the younger part), and Anglos are 45% (the older and richer part), but given that the Anglos are dying out without reproducing themselves as the Latinos, those figures will flip in another decade. As it is, Anglos are already a minority, albeit a dominate one, as they are in other parts of the country. Non-Latino Whites are a minority in Texas, California, and Hawaii. They have a shrinking majority of less than 60% in Arizona, Florida, Maryland, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, and New York. You can see why the GOP has a problem if they can’t attract more Asians, Latinos, and African Americans, or they can’t discourage these populations from voting. The times they are a-changing, as they always do.

Texas is too dependent upon government welfare to leave. it is a nice dream though. at least we have hope once the stupid white people die off enough to let some “sane” people take over. though giving it back to Mexico would be nice too.

Why are liberals against secession more than conservatives?
djmalloy over 11 years ago
Will this be like the partitioning of India at independence, with Muslims going north to Pakistan and Hindus going south to India? Only we’ll have conservatives going south and liberals going north.
lahorne over 11 years ago
Texas will eventually turn from “red” to “purple”. Time and demographic changes will eventually do that. Austin, Dallas, Houston are already there. The Rio Grande Valley (border counties) are already “blue”. I hope i live long enough to see it. “damn yankee gringa in Texas”

So would that mean the great wall of America would move to the north side of the state?

I have said it before and I’ll say it again, these secessionist Texans are All Hat and No Horse !They talk a great game, but for all the palaver, they couldn’t wean themselves off the federal subsidies tit, if their lives depended on it.

If Texas secedes, will they send all the Texans back to Texas?
JoeStoppinghem Premium Member over 11 years ago
If they want to succeed, the first stat takes half of the deficit with them, the next half of that and so on..If several try at once, they will take the total amount it would be if done one at a time..Let’s see them want to leave them..This succession BS is a real slap in the face for the rest of the US and those who sign it should be deported for treason.

That was under the last administration; under the “new Deal”,I have no doubt we’ll go to the bottom while he uses the state to resolve his own financial issues.

Alabama Al over 11 years ago
An interesting question: Can the U.S. Federal Government constitutionally banish a state from the Union? My feeling is the answer is “No,” for most of the same reasons a state cannot unilaterally secede. In any case, I can’t imagine a plausible scenario in which the rest of the country would expel an unwilling state from the Union.

For a long, long time, I’ve been specifying that I’m not a Texan, I’m an Austinite. Almost everyone I know is liberal & progressive. When the rest of the country chortles about ditching Texas, I feel like those of us who ARE perfectly loyal Americans are being thrown under a bus. So, I want to thank those of you who are extending some moral support to us in Austin.Sigh. I’d move to a blue state if I could afford to!

We, in Texas, are at least wise enough to give our governor very little real power, vesting the real power in the lt. governor. And when we tire of a governor, we send them off to be president. And ya’ll vote for them. We sure don’t do it alone. Now who’s dumb?
marchman3354 over 11 years ago
The Texas power grid isn’t attached to the rest of the country. It allows the state to control and not the federal government.

“And when we tire of a governor, we send them off to be president. And ya’ll vote for them. We sure don’t do it alone. Now who’s dumb?”.First, we didn’t vote for Bush, he was appointed once and stole one election. Perry went as far as his limited intellect would take him, and even the republicans didn’t want him..Second, from what I hear, he’s spent most of his time in office consolidating power through appointments, even if it is powerless position.

OK, NG & mt, hope this helps:.DeeBeeS said, 1 day agoLet’s see what the consequences are for secession (armed response aside…….. for the moment):
All federal military bases close and all personnel moved to the other 49 states.
All Social Security checks stopped at once.
All Medicaid payments to Texas stopped.
All college loans backed by federal loan guarantees called in for full payment at once.
All monies for infrasturctures (highways, roads, bridges, etc.) stopped all at once.
All educationsl financial support funds from the federal government to the state for colleges, and public education at all levels immediately stopped.
All Medicare payments to Texas doctors stopped at once.
All savings bonds held by Texans labled as “junk status”; i.e., cannot be traded or sold due to lack of an economic coopertation treaty between the new “Republic of Texas” and the U.S.
All research and other grants to Texas universities stopped and recalled by the federal government.
All commercial traffic coming to the U.S. through the port of Houston to be refused at the port, pending any economic treaty between Texas and U.S.
Sales of all commodities (cotton, wheat, soybeans, etc.) to the U.S. stopped at once pending same economic treaty.
All U.S. government property in Texas (Natinal parks, military basis, national forests, etc., etc.,) closed to “foreigners” i.e, Texans.
The list goes on and on, but you get the idea.
Be careful what you wish for Texians, you might just get it!!

I think I might sign the petition to have Barack Obama do the Hokey Pokey, or explain to the American People why he will not put his left foot in.
As far as the red moocher states seceding, it might give the Union the chance to finish the job this time.

Again, shall we begin to call conservative Republicans fascists? That would be far more appropriate than calling liberals communists…

montessoriteacher over 11 years ago
Or maybe not. Probably not worth it.
montessoriteacher over 11 years ago
So it is appropriate and accurate to call Democrats Communists, but inappropriate to call Republicans Fascists? Is that really what you are trying to say? I hope you realize that there are more Democrats than Republicans in this country. If you really believe we are all Communists I would think you would pack and go somewhere else. Where, I don’t know or care.

The Texas Power Grid is seperated from the other two in the US. We are self powered! Non-Union Right To Work state with no income tax! That is why everyone is moving to join us! Actually, the reason so many companies moved to TX was the breaks they got from the governor. He bragged about “creating” jobs, when what he was doing was stealing them.

I get tired of certain people saying that Democrats are Communists. That gets a little old. They aren’t Communists. They aren’t even socialists. If you think about what Clinton did as well as Obama, they were really not even all that left wing, yet we have the GOP spewing this Commie crap.

Number of signatures:120,000Population of Texas: 25.7 million
Assuming that nobody has signed more than once, that’s almost one half of one percent. You could probably get more signatures than that on a petition to ban anchovies on pizza.
