Actually, we know that Iraq had chemical weapons. We know this because Sadam used them against his own people. But, I guess that doesn’t count because it is not what you want to believe.
Oh, please, narrowmind. Bush OUTLAWED showing photos of our dead soldiers returning home. Obama turned that around. One reason that we’re not seeing so many reports of dead soldiers is that we’re bringing them home alive.
What he said. And in addition, the sad reason we don’t see reports is that people in this country have moved on. The war has lost any importance on them, and, unless they have family members who have volunteered to serve, they have mostly forgotten that “there’s a war on”.
My suggestion would be to re-institute the draft with no exceptions for any reason. When relatives of congressmen, governors, big-pocket campaign donors, etc., start getting their draft notices, you’ll be surprised how few conflicts we’re willing to join, and how quickly we will exit dead-end wars with no goal and no hope of achieving much of anything.
Simple fact, it was Don Rumsfeld and Cheney who provided Saddam those chemical weapons, a long time ago, that he used on his people (well Kurds). They did it through transactions with Germany, just like the nuclear development material WE gave him. WE supported him against Iran. WE supported bin Laden and the Taliban against Russia, and now face some of those same weapons, WE gave them.
CYA gets more difficult every day with U.S. involvement. The U.N. actually does (as screwed up as the are) a better job of “peacekeeping” than the U. S. acting alone, or even when we refuse to support the U.N. in their much more difficult role.
The UN? The UN has not done its job in decades. But you are correct , it is “SUPPOSED” to be their job.It isn’t “supposed” to go to war. If one wishes the U.N. to intervene as peacekeepers, it needs the consensus of all. If you wish to change its mandate, change its mandate AND provide the resources. Abolish the veto powers of the elite 5 and you might see more positive actions under the auspices of the U.N. (it already manages to achieve much despite the veto powers of the permanent security council). It isn’t a police force nor was it created to be one despite its “police action” in Korea (Russia had boycotted the security council in in1950 in protest for ROC (Taiwan) taking up one the 5 permanent seats instead of the PROC (China) and so did not veto the U.N.‘s intervention).If you want an international army, create one. The U.N. isn’t it, not under its present form at any rate.

They didn’t get it, nor did they get a boost to their already sizeable stockpiles, from Saddam sneaking some across the border. Sarin gas is easily made from 4 easily obtainable or manufactured ingredients.
