There’s an advertising company where I live that has the slogan “Creating Desire”. That’s right, where no desire exists, we create it. Things you never knew you needed or wanted, now you want them.
Perhaps this is a Darwinian experiment: survival of the fittest. But I think this is just a tribute to the power of marketing, and our willingness to become robotic.
The best example I have yet heard of successful marketing: the ability to tell someone to go to hell and make him look forward to the trip.
