Israel blows up a Hamas leader, they retaliate, and it’s all Hamas’ fault?? BTW “Iron Dome” seems to be working, which means along with other systems they have (for longer range efforts), Iran is HOW much a threat?

Sorry, but even Morn has this one wrong.

At the risk of invoking Godwin’s Law…Sometimes I think that the Israelis learned a bit too much during the Holocaust. The first thing the Nazis did was to confiscate the property of the Jews. The first thing the Israeli government did was to confiscate the property of the Palestinians for their new Settlements.Of course, the Palestinians are students of history too. They won’t let themselves be herded into the concentration camps. It used to be that the Israelis were the good guys. Now, BOTH sides are like a couple of kids fighting over… Well, they just HAVE to fight.

Amusing how anyone would look at this in any context other than the pervasive, endless death spiral it really is.

I don’t think there’s been one year of “negative growth” under Obama…in spite of Bush’s debacles.

This whole cartoon is a bit backwards, though. When you look at numbers, both of attacks and casualties, Palestinian casualties outnumber Israeli casualties about ten to 1. And that’s not even breaking down how many of those casualties are kids.

Israel has pursued an aggressive policy of land-grabs against the Palestines, and in addition have done a great deal to cut Palestinians off from water supplies, healthcareand medical supplies, building permits and supplies, and often, work. There is an ongoing effort to deprive Palestinians of places to live which goes almost entirely unreported in US media.

Many of the Palestinian villages are Bedouin and other local peoples, which have been there since before the formation of Israel. Now, imagine that the above were happening on American land. How do you think you all would respond…?

Before anyone accuses me of being anti-Semitic, I am certainly not; half my family is Jewish, and my father absolutely idolized Golda Meir. But what Israel is doing is the worst of politics, it is no longer a defense of a victimised religion. Having been subject to ludicrous prejudice and damaging policies for centuries in Europe, the Jewish Israeli government is now taking its turn to be the bully. And that is shameful.

Amount of Israeli dead in past week

    3

    Seriously wounded0

    Amount of Palestinians dead

47 ( 12 of which were militants, 35 of which were civilians)

    seriously wounded somewhere around 280

Unfortunately Issues in the middle east will keep going for a long time, that said you can’t condemn the Palestinians for killing 3 people and then condone the Israelis when they harm a population 130 times larger

This whole affair has seriously embarassed the Netanyahu governent. Up until the rocket attacks started ,they were claiming in the media that the threat had been neutralized

It’s pretty obvious that extremists on both sides have been setting the agenda between Palestine and Israel for quite some time. Does anyone think Palestinian extremists are going to go away just because of this latest retaliation?

Ok…a couple quick points for Morin on this one. First…Hamas and friends have been raining down missiles on Israel for an extended period of time now with very little Israeli response in return. Second is that, in the current iteration, Hamas has sent out far, far more than single missile and has started to drop them everywhere to include attempts at heavily populated Jerusalem and Tel Aviv where even one accurate hit could cause substantial Israeli causalities. No country other than Israel would tolerate such a constant assault on its land and citizens as Israel already has. Each time Hamas or friends speak to Israeli ‘aggression,’ they need to be reminded to just stop sending off missiles and, maybe, that instead of using their money to buy more missiles, it might be used to benefit the Palestinians more directly. While one can argue about the sustained intensity of Israel’s current return fusillade, to present it as one from Hamas and countless from Israel is a significant misrepresentation…and substantially wrong.

And of course, Howzit sees this Israel-Palistine cartoon as an opportunity to bring up the US economy. He must not have even looked at the cartoon and just began venting his pent up anger. I wonder if there are meds for that?

@lynn and libertarian, lynn also chooses to look at caualties rather than attacks. “land grabs” rather than land give backs, and buys into the notion that israel owes palestinians everything they want and need as if they are citizens of israel. this is why palestinians do NOT want to be a state or be part of a two-state solution.

Israel and Palestine continue to be in conflict. I am sorry Israel will not stop settlements in contested areas until peace negotiations are done, however, I am even more sorry Hamas has chosen to yank Israel’s chain. Gandi taught that a people under the “domination” of powerful military occupier could use peaceful means to humiliate and embarass them into making concessions. Sadly, Muslims are following in the footsteps of too many Christian sects by ignoring the teachings of peace and being humble while still being defiant and have chosen the path of ends justify means. Jesus said blessed are the peacemakers. Muslims constantly speak of Allah the compassionate and merciful. Everyone kills in the name of God.Armageddonists will point to these things and say it’s a sign!Perhaps. But maybe it is only a sign that it is easier for politicians to use weapons than words to get what they want.Hamas is hoping the Arab world will come to their aid. They are fools.Sadly,C.

Number ONE “terrorist organization” in the world: Likud, period.

It is time to STOP equating Jews with Likud. This is a right wing terrorist group in control of a small country, and even their own people oppose many of their actions. The history of the RADICAL Zionists after the turn of the 20th century, until WW II ended, and they got what they wanted, they still didn’t stop attacking their neighbors, and beyond.

Supporting “Israel” is NOT the same as those who support Likud and the radical, nuts, dangerous, and homicidal sociopaths that run it.

@lonecat,actually the cartoon is true to the timeline and facts.1. gaza has been shooting rockets at israel for months, at this point in time the count was about 800 and some were starting to hit telaviv and jerusalem.2.israel fired one well targeted missle and killed the leader of hamas. pretty good shot – get the guy behind the previous rain of missles.3. “now you’ve opened the gates of hell” is what the palestinans said to israel once they killed the terrorist hamas leader.

not much interpretation necessary, these are the facts along the timeline. the cartoon is a slice of time. to speak to lynn, which is worse? that the palestinians rain rockets on the israeli’s for months, or that the israeli’s are much better at killing military leaders with much fewer shots? one is intended to make life unliveable in israel. the other is to eliminate the brains that is making life unliveable.

now just put your missle launchers in the middle of a residential area and see what happens. The israeli’s are severly outnumbered and are the progeny of holocaust survivors. probably the smartest, toughest bloodline in the world today. They will survive. do any of you want to drive them into the sea?

BTW: when “Moses” led his people out of Egypt, it was to the land possessed by the ancestors of today’s “Palestinians”, that is the modern state of Israel. Joshua murdered their ancestors at Jericho. In Gaza today, they might want to buy a Twinkie, but Israel’s blockade keeps them from getting even those without “permission” or smuggling them in, risking death to do so. THAT is what’s really happening, and the “history” of the fight.

^why don’t you tell us the story about how every country in the world welcomed the survivors of the nazi death camps with open arms?

so should have the jews stayed in egypt while pharoh’s order of the murdering of jewish male children was carried out? don’t tell me you believe that phoney story about moses being the one of those children who was saved? btw, how DID the jews build those pyramids so well that they lasted this long?
