Linda’s starting to wonder if she really needs this kind of love herself, or if she could survive it.

I do SO love this comic strip. Nail-biting tension at one moment and slapstick comedy the next.Give the gal a salt lick.

The look on Linda’s face in #4 is priceless. “What in the world have I gotten myself into???” She must have led a really limited life top-side. No imagination in that one…

Sorry, my day off…I would like to propose that, even though we all have our set of Endtown books (I’m sure you do…), that we buy another set to donate to our local library this Holiday season. I know mine accepts donations, and will put them on the shelf. The more people who find Endtown, the better!I’m going to get a set for my little sister, too!

They’re getting the cigars from where? They certainly aren’t growing tobacco – they apparently aren’t growing anything..And that makes me wonder why they don’t have hydroponics areas to grow food in.

Ouch.First screamed at by a cow with cud breath. Then brain rearranged in head by hoof slap. And then wet sobberly cow kisses.Did you see how it nearley completely turned him around. It would have to feel like an NFL lineman giving you a full head slap minus helmet.Tough love indeed.

There is a thought I came up over the weekend. Occupants of Endtown are basically prisoners.Trips to the surface are restricted. One cannot come and go freely. To allow that freedom of travel would serious jeopardize Endtown security and survival. Now I can see a plan Topsiders could be working on. They cannot find Endtown. They know about it but cannot locate it. The satellite will expose all topside mutant settlements. They can be attacked. This would cause a serious refugee problem for mutants trying to find safety. Safety is Endtown. Endtown is a finite situation. Its resources can only support so much. The Topsiders are forcing mass refugees to seek safety. There will come a time when Endtown (and other settlements similar) will have to stop taking in mutants.Or Endtown will have to make a stand against Topsiders on the surface. This action is cover in the Art of War. You force your enemy to absorb mass amounts of refugees that will put pressures on them. Resources will be consumned and the enemy will have to fight or surrender. It can be done without firing a shot. All Topsiders would have to do is make assaults at those settlements. The inhabitants would flee. Endtown scavengers would run across them with a serious decision to make. Bring them in or leave them to die. Endtown is civilized so they would probably bring them in. Now Endtown would be overwhelmed by the influx. That much was shown by the letter Linda had about housing.

And finally once in not allowed to go out. How would others from the surface accept that rule. You lived topside for several years now are told you can never go back. Some may find that unacceptable. They would be ripe candidates for Mr. Jackrabbit. He could make use of their anger to take over control of Endtown and start an uprising against the Topsiders. Given the technology and weaponry of the Topsiders that would be like jumping from the trenches in WWI with a rifle attacking a line that is armed with Maxim machine guns. You would have the numbers but cut to pieces by firepower.

I don’t know if its the case here but just because Endtowners belong to the same family doesn’t necessarily mean they will mutate into the same species, right?

“Maw” is most likely the “House Mother” like at at boarding house. Such familiar situations existed up to the time of WWII and the cramped quarters recreated the need for such places again. As far as the series goes, after the roller coaster ride we’ve been on, a stint on the merry-go-round would be a refreshing change for a while. It may be that this arc is about Linda’s aclimating to Endtown being a comedy of errors.

Shakespear wrote both comedy and drama. Why can’t Aaron?

Mr. sherman.I can agree on that. I knew folks back when I was 4 and 5 I called Maw althought we were no relation. They were the keepers of the neighborhood. I can tell you one thing. You could not get away with anything. But those ladies would go to war to protect everyone. My grandma hid WWI protesters who where fleeing from General Pershings Troops when they occupied DC back after the war protesting for what was promised them. My grandma stood toe to toe with several soldiers refusing to let them enter her house. She had about 15 in the basement trying to get away. She backed them down and they left all the time being chatted at by all the women (Maws) in the neighborhood. Strong women back then, backbone of America. She worked on Norden bombsights in WWII. Was one of the few that saw or even handled the entire device that was not military. Found an old sight from WWII up in Amarillo at a museum. Her name was on the final inspection tag.

Or those fed up with rules and control. Some folks will do crazy things for freedom. If it kept you safe would you like to be told where to go, where to work, when to turn lights off, where to live, and live underground never seeing the sun, feeling the wind, seeing the night sky? If you remembered what you had would you miss not having it? You would be okay for a while then it would begin to get old.I am not disagreeing with you. The topside there would be a very dangerous place. It is an active battlefield but I will bet there are some that do wander up there. Dodging the patrols. Hiding out. Moving only when safe. Wally did that. Ran out of luck but did do that. It is that satelitte that changes everything. With it Topsiders can keep a constant view on things below. We do not know shat sensors are on board but if it anything like we have now anyone on the surface is in jeopardy. Singles would be hard to notice but a group? A settlement? Easy to spot. With the missiles they could even target it without even going near. We can do that now with the Tomahawk Cruise. It can target your cellphone in your pocket and it does not have to be in use. Just on.

In Endtown, smoking is especially hazardous and can cause brain damage. Look at the strip from 10/13/2010. (don’t know how to link in here)
