Rosa is quite correct…doing nothing is stupid, and worse, cowardly. That said, Luann is also correct…he withdraws because he likes her.

Yeah, I got nothing. I’ve had very few girlfriends, so I’m not one to talk, but at least I get the hint to cuddle when it comes.

Ehhhhhh. You could make that argument. But it’s a tough sell. To make that argument seem convincing, you’d have to imagine what it would be like with the genders reversed. If it were a girl in Gunther’s place ‘no means no’ is the phrase of the day. But with a ‘man’ and I use the term VERY loosely, in Gunther’s case…it’s more natural to think he does like her and hasn’t the balls to respond properly.

Interesting how Luann understands Gunther, but she apparently still doesn’t understand Quill. Maybe she only understands men she’s not emotionally invested in?

Wow. I thought everybody would understand Gunther’s position. He is simply too insecure to put himself “out there”. (Not to mention that he’s inexperienced, and isn’t sure what to do.) He is in total awe of her.

It doesn’t matter how well you understand the physics and know how safe it is to skydive. The first time you get to the door of the plane, you would have a very hard time throwing yourself out. (That’s why first-timers usually go tandem. No chance to hesitate.) No matter how much you want to.

Rosa feels rejected and getting resentful. She probably feels she done all she could to show she likes him. To protect her own ego, she could easily write him off as gay and start dating another guy. Rea

Give him a chance. No experience..but Gunther is decentTo the bone…and some thing very hard to find. Old schooland gentleman. Why is it decent guys get a bum rap. MyFiance was same way when we started dating..no experience dating and good to the bone..honest, kind, and decent inside and out. We are happy. I know his value.

Why is everyone in such a hurry about Gunther?He is a decent caring person who does good works and obviously follows a moral code.We should be applauding his determination to avoid temptation not urging him towards it.

Rosa is running out of patience; Gunther needs still more time. Who will reach the breaking point first?

Luann has a GIANT right hand. She should use it to slap some sense into Gunther! ;-)

Um, this is the exact same strip as yesterday, just worded a bit differently. Bored now, time to get back to an interesting story like Toni and Brad or, well…hmmm…that’s the ONLY interesting story this comic has going for it right now.

As a parent of teenage boys, I think a few folks in this group need to get off their high horse and cut poor Gunther a break. Some guys take a lot longer to get comfortable around girls – like into their 20s. They’re interested but just not ready to be in a relationship. I have one son who is really comfortable with the girls, has the girlfriend and all that. The other one – the one all the girls ogle (and, disturbingly, even moms have said to me, “He’s a hunk”), is painfully shy. He can talk with a girl right up to the moment he realizes she’s interested in him and then he clams up and tries to disappear. Yet, he’s also interested. Give him (and Gunther) another year or two, and they’ll be fine.

Yup, in comics the ugly guy usually gets the girl (Mind you, Gunth isn’t really ugly anymore; more like average looking now)

Rosa. Tell him, not Luann. Men want to be ‘guided’ to the behavior a lady expects for the time and place.

Someone should talk to Gunther, maybe Toni?.She’s someone who’s older, very attractive and has some experience, good and bad..Plus, she too was gun shy with Brad, but one must get over that fear..Now Brad needs to talk with Rosa, explaining that if you really feel this one is important enough, then give them time. They will open up to you.

I’m already bored with this story line.

Turtle thing = “hides in his shell” as in by way of the box turtle (for those young’uns that don’t get it)

But just what exactly is it that Rosa wants? What does she want from Gunther? If she truly knows Gunther, then shouldn’t she know what to expect from him?Maybe she can gently take the lead – if she knows how. If she can coax real feelings of affection from him gently, with care. That would be a real show of love.

Dump him. He’s a loser.

Withdrawing when your girl offers you her hand isn’t just stupid and cowardly, it’s insulting to the girl. He owes her an apology.

Didn’t Gunther stand up for Rosa once, when it counted?

Holding hands is temptation? That shows something more. If there is no movement on that front, then he will never move without soiling himself.

When we want to change a person’s behavior, see what motivates him/her. With Gunther, it’s fear.

He didn’t make a move for Rosa until Les started moving in.

Gunther needs t see someone, maybe Les or TJ, make a pass for her.

And to answer yesterday’s comments— we boomers sadly are no loner the center of the universe. Strips directed at us are Mary Worth & Crankshaft. Ugh!

And Nab, don’t ask a woman who is in a group. As I said before, when in a group, “girls” are more about impressing each other than they are a mere man!

question is, can Evans write Gunther as being more forward and less timid and still keep his “Guntherness”? Can he change the character without changing the character?

No. The best he can do with Gunther is have him accidentally appear with no clothes on, or fantasize while making costumes.

Personally, I believe it is better to nut up and swing the bat then to forever wonder. Better to strike out swinging then get caught looking. This hasn’t always worked in my life…not every girl I swung at wanted anything to do with me. But then I found the girl that did, and my propensity for batswinging has brought me much joy. Besides, I never have to wonder if things could’ve been different with the others. For I proved to myself they weren’t interested.

That turtle thing happens after being in the pool, or if it’s really cold out.

I agree that Aaron will be back, just about the time that Lu and Gunther get engaged… in the end, Luann will follow her heart over her lust (for Aaron) and go through with the wedding to Gunther.
