My high school athletic director (who’s a surfer) always did the “missing finger” trick on me (saying a shark bit it off), but I wasn’t a sucker.

Our neighbor had only a thimb left on his hand, war wound. Always tried not to stare because it was amazing to see how adept he was with it.

Grampa is a sweetheart. Everytime he reminds me of my husband. Looks just like he did, adorable Hungarian!!

I remember going to the midwest to visit families on their farms. There was always at least one of the farmers that was missing fingers or worse, their hands.

When I was a kid, my dad worked in a chain saw store for a while. The owner had only 3 or 4 of his 10 digits left. Gross and fascinating at the same time – he was still quite skilled with his hands; the losses didn’t seem to affect him that much. Looking back, I now regret not having dropped in a few years later to see if he had lost his remaining fingers.

Due to a farm accident, my brother lost about an inch of his left hand ring finger. He would tell people he saved it, & would bring out a ring box with cotton & red food coloring inside. It had a hole in the bottom through which he inserted another finger. When he took the lid off, people would gasp as they saw the “piece of finger”, & more so when he wiggled it a little.

This grandpa is almost as crazy as Frank Barone.

That couch sure don’t miss any lonely nights with you, isn’t it, Earl?
