The argument whether a Boston Cream pie is actually a pie or a cake! Who cares. For me it tastes delicious whatever you choose to call it! Let me have some, and you won’t see it anymore!

The folks at Cheers were drinking too much when they named that cake.

Just be glad she isn’t making Rocky Mountain Oysters, which also aren’t what their name implies.

Pie good. Frosting good. Putting frosting on pie, somebody has been drinking in the kitchen.

Boston cream pie is our favorite snack in the hospital cafeteria when we take our break from dog therapy rounds. Another person and her dog are with us. She is very confused by the name, but I used to make them at home years ago, so I accepted the misnomer years ago. It has cake batter, cream filling, and frosting. It’s a one-layer cake cut in half with the custardy-filling added, and the top put back on. There is nothing in there that resembles a pie. There is also nothing in a pizza that resembles a pie, either, so some words are just weird. I also take a small bag of mixed dog treats to reward our girls for being so wonderful to everyone in the hospital, even while on break.

My mother used to make a pound cake that was so moist one could call it a pie, too. And that’s one of my mom’s recipes that I’ve never duplicated.

For once Wiberforce is right, if it doesn’t have a crust it isn’t a pie.

What’s in a name? If it tastes good (and it should) that’s what counts…..

Years ago I got hooked on Boston Creme Pies. But they were in a package and flat. No chocolate.

A show that formerly aired on The Cooking Channel was called Food: Fact or Fiction. One of the topics they discussed was if Boston Creme Pie was appropriately named. I don’t remember all the details and I haven’t seen the show in awhile, but the conclusion host Michael McKean and several other people who know about food came to is that what we refer to as Boston Creme Pie is more appropriately characterized as New England Custard Cake.
