Stone Soup by Jan Eliot Rena: You haven't talked about the wedding in a while, Val... Val: Well, I sort of FREAKED OUT a little, Rena. Val: Phil has a risky job, and I started to worry about losing him. Val: But then I realized, we could ALL die tomorrow! When it's our time, it's our TIME! Val: Heck, these elevator cables could snap and send us plunging 10 stories to our deaths! Val: I decided I just have to trust the universe. Rena: WOW. It's only 9:15 and you've got me contemplating my demise. Val: You don't trust the universe? Rena: Today, I trust the stairs!
All the stairwell doors could be locked, except the ground floor exit. So you go out there and end up getting knifed for your purse. Someone could come running down the stairs, knock you off balance, and you end up tumbling down 3 flights, dying from head injuries. The unusual physical exertion could cause a heart attack. The time it took to climb the stairs makes you 5 minutes late, you get fired, lose your house, live on the streets, and die from a heroin overdose in the east end tent city.
