What makes this even more ridiculous is that Obama LOWERED the deficit. It shot up in his first year because he put war costs back on budget, where they belong. It went down every year after that, and wound up LOWER than it was when he took office. But the Republicans spent all 8 years talking about that first year.
By the way, the cartoon has a major error: the deficit and the national debt are too different things. The national debt is the total of all debt in the US, public and private. The deficit/surplus is the difference between income and spending. Bill Clinton was the only President since Nixon to run a surplus. Which followed a tax hike that Republicans said would lead to economic disaster.
It is an article of faith that Republicans have no clue as to proper monetary policy for the Federal Government. They seem to believe that a “Tax Cut” will fix ANY fiscal problem that arises – they seem to believe that “Tax Cuts” will ‘pay for themselves’ even when they NEVER HAVE in the past!
Let me paint you a picture. (understanding all the while that the ‘simile’ I’m about to draw is true only in the broadest sense)
Liken our government to a family. The family has a paycheck coming in (taxes) and bills to pay (military weapons, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, infrastructure costs, etc.) Now picture a close family friend (the wealthy) saying that, if the family would give them part of their wages (taxes), he’d give them magic beans, that, when planted, would lead them to untold wealth!
So the family keeps giving the close family friend their wages and they keep planting the beans they receive in return and they keep writing checks against the “amazing wealth” those beans will “SOMEDAY” produce – going deeper and deeper into debt (it’s approaching over $1,000,000,000,000 a year, now!
Quite frankly, I’m surprise that Republicans still believe in such fairy tales, though, evidently, they still do – and we as a country still have the good sense to elect a Democratic government every once in a while to attempt to “right the ship of state” (the last administration to seriously deal with the national debt was the Clinton Administration).
Remember, TAXES are our country’s wages and we must STOP giving them away to every slick-talking con man who comes along – at NO TIME in our history has giving away tax money EVER produced more than a fractional return on that investment! It just doesn’t work that way, and if you DO believe that it does, you’ve probably already invested in “climbing spurs” for tackling those bean stalks you’re expecting to climb.
This ‘toon isn’t entirely accurate. They ARE talking about the deficit. They’re just ignoring the fact that they created it, and are using it as an excuse for a plan to cut Social Security and Medicare. That’s right Republicans are using the debt THEY created by giving everything to the people who need it the least, as an excuse to take everything they can from the people who need it the most. Because….you know… they care so much about us.

Republicons: Trump told us the national debt is a hoax invented by the Chinese. We believe him. Would he lie to us? He’s the chosen one.

Quite true.
Just like the deficit is not an issue for the Dems when they had Congress and the White House….
Both parties suck hind parts.

Historically speaking, repubs only care about deficits when Dems are in power.

Republicans only care about debt and deficits when a Democrat is in the White House (and when they control at least one part of Congress).

Deficit spending is the Republican mantra, so they don’t talk about it, as a way to deal with their intelligence deficit.
