The problem, here, is the Iowa democratic party started out from a faulty position in the first place – they started with the assumption that they “must” have a caucus WHEN THE D.N.C. told them they had to address the concerns of the 2016 democratic candidates about the inequity of the system they had,which was a ‘byzantine’ mess, even then.
They “engineered” such a monstrosity that nobody could figure it out and then tried to ‘cloak’ it in an unproven and ultimately unfunctioning technology that it collapsed under the weight of its own ineptitude. And ALL OF THIS was so Pa and Ma Jones would feel they were “important” when they hitched up the old wagon and ‘moseyed’ into North Pig Wallow to meet over gravy and biscuits to decide who would get their all-important “vote”!
The solution is simple, people – lean in and I’ll whisper it to you – “ONE PERSON – ONE VOTE” – behind a curtain so no one can see how stupid you are!
Of course, the real question is, “are the people in charge of elections in Iowa intelligent enough to figure this out on there own?” The answer that most probably comes up on the democratic “eight-ball” is “not in a million years”!
Therefore the real solution is to move the Iowa caucus (and all the other states stupid enough and ‘undemocratic’ enough to still be using “caucuses”) to the week before the nominating convention where their Machiavellian machinations will not disturb the grown-ups trying to determine the future of the democratic party and, increasingly, the whole country.
I live in a primary state (PA) so I don’t get the whole caucus thing. To me it sounds like a community board game party with overly complicated rules that can be manipulated at will.
