Please! Stop panicking. No one is going to ban guns in America for at least the next decade. ok? But maybe some kind of waiting period before you buy one, with background checks a mandatory requirement, or membership of a gun club, etc MIGHT WELL have prevented this particular tragedy. Fair comments?

Tens of thousands of gun deaths every year is a small price to pay for the right to protect yourself from being gunned down.

It’d never wash. Why?1) You’d cause the price of movie tickets to go up in general as theaters try to make up the cash they get for those midnight showings.2) Banning costumes goes against the First Amendment right of Freedom of Expression. I’d go along with AMC Theaters: no masks.

The police in Aurora were there on the scene in 90 seconds to risk their lives, to save others. How long will it take the NRA to step forward and actually do something to SAVE lives? Reasonable regulations were approved by SCOTUS in the D.C., case, NOT unfettered ownership, but yes DID say, within regulation, was an “individual right”. They DID recognize the Constitution includes that critical word “regulated”.

Maybe if you try a little harder, you could put some actual vitriol in your posts.

People with guns kill people.Assault rifles kill more people, more easily and more quickly, that’s why they are assault rifles. The NRA helped to eliminate the ban on assault rifles.

I’ve heard too many times an argument was resolved with a gun simply because it was so handy. One side is dead, the other in prison and regretting it forever.

How does killing your family, neighbor, friend or loved one square with the teachings of Jesus?

I’m going to say this again; Obama is NOT trying to take our guns! Don’t know who started that little jewel. Washington DC now has the right to own guns, thanks to president Obama!there are so many lies and conspiracy theories! I saw a silly thing about his satire from when he was in college. People were trying to find damaging things, when it was just .meant it to be funny.

    Charming.

I don’t feel v comfortable if people with guns call liberals who don’t like guns “scumbags” and I don’t feel that my family is protected by such people having guns.

    Do I have any rights?

Such response from the “conservatives” of the bunch. With Charlton Heston gone, one of you needs to quickly organize a NRA rally so you can hold a gun over your head while yelling that “they” will take your gun over your cold dead hands.

Bruce4671: Where did he say that? It isn’t even like the bogus “any lie repeated…” quote. At least that one reflects his views; your line discusses something he never mentioned. Try wading through that garbage bin of My Battle, particularly in the original German, and see.

There seems to be some cultural factors at play in this gun ownership and violence thing. Many Americans feel safer with guns in the house. Most Canadians feel safer without guns in the house. Case in point: I inherited a family 22 calibre Mossberg that had been used on the ranch for small-time sports hunting and predator elimination. I am comfortable using guns, but I was not comfortable with that gun in the house. I felt more at risk from accidental shooting than I did from protecting from intruders. Also I did not want to promote gun ownership and use of firearms with the kids. I had a difficult time getting rid of the gun – finally sold it for $20 to an off-duty policeman, somewhat on the fringe of legality because of gun regulations.

No, they didn´t however they do seem to oppose every single move made, or tried to be made for weapons regulations. Also you still hold the world record in gun related incidents (most likely due to this lack of control – just look at the strict control Japan has when comparing population density with guns).

going by everything i read so far seems the NRA works for the guy making the guns (or are the guy making the guns)

and thats the real reason they are against the ban ….money.

because we all know you dont need an assault weapon to defend yourself .

The NRA started the “take your guns away” campaign while he was debating Hillary. Firearm, and ammunition sales, SOARED after the election, and even before he took office. NOW, “Fast and Furious” and the Republicans are branding him the biggest gun-runner in history, pretty hilarious, actually.

When asked in my firearms ethics class, most could not say they’d actually be sure they could kill a person. I was the ONLY one who was sure they could. When pressed by the instructor, I replied, “Because I have, many times”. His jaw dropped and he said, “I hope that was in Viet Nam.” “Yes”, I responded.

It IS something that will always “live with you”, but, it is partly troubling because you know you HAVE, and CAN again.

can we at least ban high capacity magazines from 30 rounds to 8? or, assault weapons ban since those rifles are used on the battlefield, not hunting deer. or, have the gun manufacturers contribute money from every gun they make to a national victims fund. the same goes for the modders who mod guns from semi-auto to full auto. or, ban private sales since the buyers are not being background checked and the sellers are not doing the background checks. or, limit on how many rounds one can buy in a month.

How is wearing a costume of your favorite character (minus the mask) “greed”?.I think you forget what Oscar Wilde wrote/said: “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” (emphasis mine)

MDavis, a huge majority of Republicans and members of the NRA agree that there is no legitimate reason for citizens to own assault weapons. What the NRA demands has nothing whatsoever to do with what Americans want and deserve, or what’s good for America or gun rights.
