Back in the day the neighborhood crank could only annoy a few people at a time. Now they can bug thousands at a time.

Let’s see. A woman ambivalent to the body laying next to her stairs. The man with the bullhorn ambivalent to his state of dress. The dog ambivalent to the cat. The cat ambivalent to the dog. Perhaps a fan or hole in a window next to the gated garbage cans. Not much seems to have changed — you can yell (or blog) all you want, but that doesn’t mean anyone will listen (or read) or care.

palos, wow, I didn’t even notice the feet on the other side of the stoop! Wiley’s a freakin’ genius…the fire plug, the cat, the garbage cans…I could look at those renderings and enjoy them even without context…..This guy is an elite artist.

The guy next to the stairs just polished off the last of his Jack Daniels in a bag and is oblivious to all.

One of my clients was a former dentist who had been DIY’ing a bus, which he had bought and was fixing up as a recreational vehicle. He was lying under the bus, which slipped off its jacks or whatever, and landed on a jugular. He lost his smarts and couldn’t practice dentistry any more.

I think “ambivalence” is not caring one way or the other about a matter; and “apathy” is not caring to even hear the matter. Which one is everyone in the strip displaying?

“Should you be angry or sad at the man who thinks what he has to say is so important he imposes it on every one within the vicinity of that bullhorn he is using?”Neither angry nor sad. I’m inclined to listen with interest and see if his message is important for me to hear. Might even ask questions. If it is not important, then I can decline to hear more. Most people don’t go public with their thoughts…I mean, look at all of us, declaring our thoughts on a public forum for all to hear, but doing it under anonymity. For someone to get up the courage to go public in any manner means that they care about their message, and maybe even the people that can hear it. Sometimes they are mentally ill or delusional, and sometimes their message really IS important.Think Paul Revere. Jesus Christ. Others. Rather than dismiss such ones, maybe we should respect them enough to at least listen a little. If they are ill, we can comfort them and get them help. If they are telling us something important, then we can be comforted and get help. Win – win.

    Sound of Silence. .

If this was St. Louis the corner would clearly be labeled Rat Alley, and the pre-blogger would be shouting from underneath a man hole cover. It’s not NY, no garbage and pot holes in street. Methinks the stiff is a mugging victim. Shoes clearly hard sole leather no holes worn in them.

The difference is that if you don’t like a particular blog, you don’t have to go out of your way to avoid it.

I think that, even in those pre-Internet times, the cat would be trying to sit on top of the bullhorn.
