Sorry, but that’s a copout. We have to look at who the real culprits are and not throw the baby out with the bath water. The blanket condemnation is exactly what is giving the lunatic fringe their strength.

Tough to negotiate with someone whose negotiating stance is “I get everything I want, and you get nothing you want; on this I am resolute.”

High unemployment is good for employers. They get better employees for little pay and benefits.

“EVERYONE in D,C, seems to be equally to blame for the mess we are in now.” AGREED.Experienced politicians are a LIABILITY. After 2 Terms, many R & D are owned by Special Interests. Elect ONLY representatives that promise to promote Bi-partisan Legislation.

If you owe me money, then it is my money you are hanging onto when you don’t pay your debts, not yours. The country owes billions and billions of dollars; we own the country. The national debt is our debt. Those of us who don’t want to contribute to paying off that debt, who whine about it being “their” money and all, are deadbeats, pure and simple. We all owe our fair share in taxes. Now the question is, what each of our fair shares, and how are we to calculate it? There is ground to debate what is “fair” and honest people may have different opinions about that. Then there are current expenditures, the deficit. Nobody likes deficit spending or thinks that it is a good idea in general. Everybody admits that it is necessary at times. How many would have said after Pearl Harbor, to use a obvious example, that we simply could not afford to spend money we didn’t have, fighting Japan on borrowed money? That we would just have to make a deal with the Japanese, because tax increases or borrowing would be necessary to fight? We could probably all agree that temporary deficit spending is acceptable for necessities, and unacceptable for luxuries. So the question is, what is necessary and what is a luxury. Honest people may have different opinions about these things. To give the example suggested in this cartoon. We all agree than it is better for most people to be employed by private industry than by the government. I’ve never heard anyone other than a few kooks say otherwise. The question is, when private industry isn’t employing enough people, should government just ignore that situation, get out of the way as some would say, and let nature take its course, or should government act? If if government should act, should it act to (1) directly employ people, (2) stimulate employment by subsidizing private employers, or (3) stimulate employment by collecting less in taxes than what, in better times, would be considered a “fair share” toward common expenses? Really, there is no essential difference between (2) and (3). From any given starting point, giving someone a tax break or giving him a subsidy is essentially the same thing. Is the government acting to put more money in his pocket than he would have had if the government had done nothing. Some people refuse to see this. They think a rebate and a discount are different things, when they are just two different ways of accomplishing the same purpose. <br? So yes, Harley, we “spend” money on tax breaks, however that offends your notions of logic. My only real point, is that these issues should be considered from a pragmatic and not ideological standpoint; and just because we have different ideas about what would be most effectual, the name-calling, and insults we levy against one another serve no purpose at all but that of making any solution or progress that much more difficult.

@eryxWhere were you when BO loaned $Billions to Auto Companies to keep UAW voters employed? Did you notice that later, BO forgave $ Billion in Loans to GM and $1 Billion was spent to buy Volt cars. Didn’t you read BO’s announcements to Unions how he spent the Stimulus on THEM. $500 Million is a lot of govt cash to give a flawed Solar company. You know about other giveaways. The press estimated that the Stimulus spent an average of over $100,000 on each claimed new job.
