Maybe it’s time to change the political system. Instead of voting for someone we despise to make decisions on our behalf, perhaps we should vote for or against individual policies. It might encourage us to become more aware of how things work.

Today I give thanks that I live in Ill-Annoy, which is most definitely Not A Swing State, so of the $7 billion or so that we’re being told will be spent on the presidential campaign this year, very little will be spent annoying me.

Hello Neighbors,I like pcolli’s comment on voting for policies instead of people. One of the first disqualifiers for being a political leader is wanting the job. We should consider becoming nine issue voters- there will always be issues on which we wont’ agree, but there will usually be some on which we can, and should, without political ‘leaders’ distracting us with issues upon which we are unable to agree.Respectfully,C.

You know not of what you speak. It was wall street executives and unions who were the biggest supporters of Obama. The stock market is a way for ordinary people to invest (and hopefully) make a return on a corporation. Why do you think Obama bailed out wall street and appointed Geitner?

No news or politics on the idiot box, a literate bartender ( at least he’s reading a newspaper ), a quiet neighborhood, and good beer. What more could a guy want?

@indieme@ThirdguyThis election cycle is going to be the worst ever. We have the Supreme Court to thank for this, courtesy of the Citizens United decision.A Supreme court which rules that corporations are people and money is free speech.Molly Ivins said it best years ago concerning campaign “contributions”. Short and sweet-“It’s legalised bribery”.Anybody really believe these mega-billionaires give all that money without expecting a hefty return on their investment?

Unions may contribute to campaigns, but the money they have to spend up against the uber-wealthy is like using a peashooter against a tank. And unions actually TRY to improve the lot of the poor and working people. Unbelievable the number of working people who live below the poverty level.Union membership is right around the 10% mark of all workers.“A rising tide lifts all boats” has now been revised to state that “a rising tide lifts all yachts”.Truth is, employers will not do ANYTHING to improve the lot of workers unless they’re required to by law or contractually. Go union, America.Don’t know the source of the quote but its truth is self-evident-“The true measure of a country’s greatness is how it cares for its most vulnerable citizens-the poor the sick, and the elderly”.America’s rating?

@masterskrainThere are still plenty of billboards in the country….Basically don’t watch TV either, but do view MSNBC on line. Far better analysis of what’s going on, leftist to be sure ,but in a truly fair and balanced way, not off the wall like Fox News, Limbaugh, etc. Chris Hayes, Lawrence O’Donnell,Ed Schultz,Rachel Maddow, Chris Matthews, and Dylan Ratigan and guests are phenomenal. Dylan’s book “Greedy Bastards” really tells it like it is. Dynamite. At Amazon.com you can use the “click to look inside” button to get a good feel for what the rest of the book is like. Dynamite.

@Lin Gee WhizQuote (yours)“The stock market is a way for ordinary people to invest (and hopefully) make a return on a corporation”. Better be prepared to do a LOT of hoping. What planet are corporations like that on?Remember 2008? For awhile, “ordinary people” thought they were making a killing. Then reality set in. Time to kiss that nest egg you thought you had goodbye.Truly thank God that have never had a cent in the stock market.Geithner? Bilderberg through and through. That’s where the problem is-not so much with elected officials, but with the unelected appointees. Most are Bilderbergers, and like a bad dream, keep coming back time after time. There are plenty of Obama Bilderberg appointees, too, but it’s the lesser of two evils thing again.
