I hate doing laps when little kids are in the pool — all that noise and splashing. The only good thing is that water does seem a bit warmer somehow…

East River: FALSE, DAMMIT.The east river has been clean for DECADES. They even did a news segment on TV just a couple years back where the TV reporter donned a swimsuit and dove right in.

Wasn’t there a scientific study released to the media recently that swimmers in public pools are basically swimming in other peoples urine? Not cool.

My swimming in the ’70’s was at the local lake. They told us the brown debris in the water was “cedar”.

those ‘special suits’ keep poop in. They are not absorbant at all. I recall my husband’s face when he watched our daughter pee in our backyard and he said ‘those don’t keep in pee’ and of course, I responded that no, if they were absorbant, they’d just absorb the pool water. He then recalled unhappily the water babies course we’d done with our daughter.

@AshburnStadium“My family had a sign saying, “Welcome to our ‘ool’. Notice that there is no ‘p’ in it – please keep it that way!”

Ours too, and woe betide the lil’ kid standing still, with a faraway look on it’s face! “YOU’RE NOT AMERICAN, but EUROPEAN!! Now get out !!”Word spread.

I agree about your description of WW’s comments. I wish he’d tone them down because even as an adult, I don’t find them amusing… only brutish and classless.

I swim in a university pool where kids aren’t allowed. I can tell you there are many adults of both genders who can’t be bothered to take 2 minutes to climb out and use the bathrooms. I do not understand how they aren’t bothered swimming through their own wee on the return length.

My college Itialian teacher told us that in Italy they have a chemical that reacts with the ammonia in pee to turn the water red, and if soe one does it, they make every one get out to clean up and fine the people who pee in the pools..My local pool has a therapy pool with warmer water that was intended for people who had physical issues, it’s also where the baby swim class and senior water arrobics were held. I disticntly recall the instructor for baby swim saying the cholrine levels were mugh higher than the normal pool because “it tends to react with the pee to form those mineral lumps we fish out from the bottom” In other words, just because some one pee’d doesn’t mean it stays pee. Check the bottom and see how often they clean it out.
