There’s a reason the tax is deducted immediately. Some years ago, several persons went together on a ticket that was a winner. Several of the winners split immediately with their “share” leaving one man to eventually owe the tax on all the earnings – which was unfortunately more than his share! The IRS was not going to be left short again!
