I agree, conservatives reason that because some green energy firms go bankrupt, that proves that green energy isn’t viable. This is a fallacy, because all kinds of businesses go bankrupt: car companies, banks, airlines, investment firms. All those industries are perfectly viable.Green energy is also, in other countries like China that recognize it’s importance.

Solar cell production is growing, not falling.

Bruce, right now the solar industry is extremely well established in Germany, Japan, and China. They started with OUR technology, which went moribund after Reagan discontinued research funding. I know a number of innovators personally looking into new technologies that could cause a boom (e.g., high-quality energy generation with lower-quality and cheaper source material, which is key), but meanwhile the sensible countries are funding it heavily and the companies are making serious money. We are still making buggy whips by comparison.Incidentally, GE makes wind turbines. ABB (multinational with HQ in Zurich) and Siemens (German multinational), however, were in that market first and have larger market share. Are you getting a pattern here? Don’t dis green energy yet. It’s going to be huge. Can it replace the oil industry? No, but why is that the only measure? I see it as a means to reduce dependence, and start a DECLINE in oil usage, which in turn would to lower energy prices in general as well as reduced pollution, less CO2, etc.

“Hey where are those magic green jobs”

According to a report by the Brookings Institute,“Though modest in size, the clean economy employs more workers than the fossil fuel industry "-——————————————————————- http://www.brookings.edu/reports/2011/0713_clean_economy.aspx

Solyndra failed because the Chinese upped their backing of their solar industry in response to our backing of Solyndra. No wrongdoing. The objective was to smear Obama, but that fizzled.
