Speak for yourself. Personally, I like having police, fire, military, CDC, air traffic controllers, meat inspection, FDA, the judicial system, veterans hospitals, museums, basic research, the internet, colleges, road, freeways, sewers, FEMA (before Republicans got a hold of it), NASA, mental health care, Medicare, Medicaid, IRS, FBI, EPA, etc, etc, etc.

I will gladly pay my amount so we have a functioning civilization that promotes order, qaulity of life and real freedom. I would rather not have the lawlessness promoted by those “freedom seekers”.

I don’t mind taxes; I just don’t like the money being wasted. Democrats are every bit as good as wasting money as the Republicans.

Dar and Bri, You don’t sem to get the point. One can have security. Or one can have freedom. One cannot have both.

I believe it is a balancing act. Absolute safety is never possible, and no one really wants absolute liberty. Well, maybe some people do, but I for one would rather not live in a society that allows people to kill and steal and what have you. Some restrictions on behavior are reasonable. The trick is to strike a balance, and it is a challenge that will never end.

Do I mind paying taxes? No. Do I wish they’d do a better job of spending the money I give them? Yes. But, see; I’m in control of that.

Darsan54: I’m with you. The benefits of government are well worth paying taxes.

Tax CUTS on the rich are what got us into this recession. Cuts led to deficits, led to cutbacks, led to unemployment, led to further loss in revenue. The Laffer curve and trickle down killed the economy. Truth is: taxes can be too high, and they can be too low. Right now, they are too low, and the fact that the middle class has grown at zero percent since Reagan, while the top 1% has grown 500%, tells you who’s not paying enough.

Too bad it wasn’t the other leg, in light of the last week.
