Arlo and Janis by Jimmy Johnson for March 15, 2012
March 14, 2012

Transcript:
Arlo: Today is the Ides of March, isn't it?
Janis: From the Roman calendar "Ides" comes from Latin, "Idus", or "half division."
Arlo: There's no longer such a thing as idle chitchat!
Idle chitchat will always be plentiful, Arlo, but uninformed or purposefully misleading chitchat may be a bit less prevalent. I’ve found lately that conversation monopolists are less likely to make their arguments up out of wholecloth when they know their listeners have instant Google access.

Fret not, Arlo. It’s still just as ephemeral.

From the Amer. Herit. Dict. of the Eng. Lang., 4th Ed.:
Ides: The 15th day of March, May, July, or October or the 13th day of the other months in the ancient Roman calendar.
So the Ides of April is on the 13th? I’ll mark it on my calendarium. (Poor Nones of March. Nobody pays any attention to it at all.)

It’s sad people had to look this up. The quality of education in the US is pitiful for a “developed” nation.
