And actually the throwaways do fit into the story very nicely. The inspector had to wake the guard just to be able to gain entrance. Sleeping on post is another violation, just not of the fire code.

simple solution: have someone have an “incident” and sue your company, and name the fire marshall and the government authority that has no concern for health of wellfare of the people it’s supposed to be “protecting”, and co-respondents in the suit. the law will be changed, and someone will retire quite well-off as a result.

I loved this strip today! Back in the 80’s a stubborn fire inspector cost my school its lovely old wood and glass classroom doorways and enough other expenses that teachers went without raises for two years. We WV teachers dropped to last in the US thanks to that knucklehead.

Odd that he didn’t mention he needs a fire extinguisher bythe door as well.

That would be a distinct advantage to being King before parliaments! When the ^%$## EPA gets to be too big of a pain in the @$$ you just throw them in the dungeon and they’re never seen nor heard from again!!!

Sounds like a great idea to me!!

Quite the contrary, they bring everything to the story. They illustrate just how persnickety this fire chief is and therefore, why he can’t be bribed. You said you wouldn’t cavil, yet you went ahead and caviled anyway. How does THAT add anything to the story?

Doesn’t the fire guy work for the king? Isn’t that how politics works? The king and his buds get exempted from all those regulations. It always works for their advantage.

Our plant had an OHSA inspection once. It appeared that the only thing one man knew was how high the fire extinguishers should be off the floor.Didn’t I read one time that someone got a copy of the OHSA rules and went through one office building and found hundreds of violations – in the OHSA offices!
