Corporations have set record profits yet there are Americans out of work. We blew up our economic borders, allowing the Chinese to compete with American laborers, thus allowing cheap goods to enter our country. The average corporate tax (not income tax) is about 7-9%. This is the amount corporations pay to the gubbermint AFTER the gubbermint sends out those rebate checks thanks to the corporate welfare system we have in place. Our economy uses oil and coal as energy source, both of which are finite sources. We dole out about 4% of the world’s energy, so anyone who thinks that there are jobs that we can create out of these industries is smoking the seeds.
The president was talking about taxing companies that outsource jobs in his last speech. The Republicans are outright against this since they say it will “kill jobs”. What it will kill is corporate profits and put people to work since they no longer have to compete with the Chinese and the Punjabs.
In short companies WANT to do business overseas because our gubbermint allows it and give incentives to do so. They pay litte no taxes because our gubbermint says its okay to use offshore accounts. To say that taxes and regulations are causing companies to go off shore is like saying nobody wants to visit your house because you have a bad dog sign in your front yard, despite the fact that you don’t own a dog.
The real “frozen molasses” is the thought process of the current “republican” voters, con men, er’ excuse me “commentators”, pundits etc. If those on the right took even a tiny peak at the REALITY behind either Mitt, Newt, Santorum, OR Paul, they’d realize the funny farm is short some patients, and there would be nothing funny about ANY of their plans for a “new American century”, but with the exception of Ron Paul’s correct anti-more wars attitude, they’re all out to give corporations TOTAL control of every element of American life.
Every time one thinks “corporations good”, they should think “Enron”!

Alaska has twice as much oil and has about the same population as North Dakota, yet their unemployment rate is about 7.7%. Its not oil that’s keeping that state afloat. The weather sucks, they have a manufacturing base (Bobcat equipment is located there), and they have a State Bank that does not engage in the stock market games. I’m pretty sure the Canucks don’t base their economy on oil.

My solution is the same as Alexander Hamilton’s: tax the companies that threaten our domestic industry. In case you haven’t noticed the Chinese economy has been growing at at steady rate while ours has been on the decline. We’ve had tariffs in place for 200+ years and we blew them up in the past 30 years, giving away our economy to third world countries. Its obvious that tax breaks to the rich aren’t working for the middle class. As I stated before, you have corporations making obscene amounts of money while unemployment in this country remains high. Obviously your system is working for the guys you’re going to bat for. The market has proven time and again that it doesn’t care about the middle class but instead worships the all mighty dollar. Time to declare Reaganomics and Clintonomics dead and start going back to the principles that made America great in the first place.
