Ed, remind her that football season ends in a few weeks.

Actually, Ed is doing very well and Shirley knows it. Truth be known, giving up the goalie’s uniform was easy. As colorful and reassuring as it was; Ed found it difficult to relax in his recliner and stairs were impossible. He actually preferred the catcher’s attire; very protective and flexible; much more socially acceptable. So following Shirley’s suggestion to switch to his fencing gear was easy step, with only a short transition time adjusting to his new image. On the other hand, when the children at the park started yelling “Zoro, Zoro” and with the dogs barking and after the second call to 911; Ed decided it was time for a clean break. But, in those moments when Ed perceives Shirley as “armed and dangerous”, his natural instincts of “fight or flight” summon the inner strength of his manly nature and the rest is history.

this is what I love about this strip. The wife already knows and refers to it specifically by name. This is no new quirk.

It was really embarrassing at the wedding, and hasn’t improved any over the years.

Ed is flashing back to his training table days at State U.
